Defensive EDC blade.

Thanks. The knife looks good, but from what I'm reading it's 200 or over and honestly I really want to keep it around 150. Your suggestion is great though :) and to everyone else, I'm still looking. Some of you have suggested great designs that I like, and I hope you all continue to suggest more so I can find my perfect EDC defense blade :)

Pretty sure you can get it for right around $150 if you go to one of the online dealers that uses coupon codes to get the price under the minimum advertised price. I will pm you a name for my personal fav.

Spyderco Perrin PPT. Less than $140 through Knifeworks, gets you your Spyderco fix, stays within your price range, easy deployment by way of the Spyderhole, and Fred Perrin has been there, so his designs work for SD.

Having great respect for Navy Seals...even having been a Marine grunt, mind you...I take it as lofty recommendation that they buy and use Cold Steel tanto folders for hard solutions. Talking the talk is all well and good but I'll take the word of those who've actually been there and done that, among them my humble self who had more than one occasion to play pin the tail on the bad guy.

More and more I'm seeing pretty knives getting a lot of ink, and that's fine as long as one doesn't forget what a defensive blade is all about.

Do you have a particular model/variation of Cold Steel Tanto which is your favorite?

Also, apparently in my state if a folder looks "tactical" or "defense" purposed it's still a weapon and requires permit. So, that limits me as well. So according to that, the 710 seems to be in the win as it seems to be good for defense, but not "scary" so I should be cool. Still not decided though so keep em coming ;)

If the officer is the one who decides whether or not your folder "looks tactical":

1) You're screwed

2) That law is broken

3) AKTI might have something to say about it.

I'm not asking anybody to jump on any figurative legal grenades to save the Second Amendment. But without clear legal wording, the police can really say any knife, even your SAK or Ashworth Turtle is a "tactical knife".

In that case, I would advise you to invest in a good unarmed defense course. Quickly, before those become "deadly weapons", too....

Well, I see what you mean. But apparently a clip showing in Florida counts as open carry regardless, making a switchblade legal to carry also. I just like to be on the safer side. Also, I don't plan on pulling a knife at the first sign of trouble and was also looking into OC spray or a good flashlight as a first level of defense. :P

You can pick up a BM710 in M390 blade steel and still have enough left to go out for supper, a couple of times, unless you take someone with you! Check with one of the big internet dealers to see what they have.

Don't know if these were mentioned, but I like the ZT0200, and BM275 Adamas.

The ZT0200 is one of my all time favorites. But the BM275BK is right up there with it, even to point of having the exact same weight as the ZT0200! The 275 is about $25 less than the ZT.

The link you provided to bladehq for the 710 shows $148 shipped. As recomended above, the m390 710 from knifeworks for 150 is hard to beat. You'll pay about 8 bucks to get it shipped, but I think the steel upgrade is worth it. I have the m390 710 from knifeworks and it is great. Good for edc, and I think it would serve well if pressed into a defensive role.

It's a bit off of your requests, but I have found my CS Recon 1 to be awesome. The clip blade has a nice point for penetration, and belly for EDC. You could also get the tante for SD. I have found them to be solid, not much more you need in a knife than what the recon provides.

knife.14.jpg

+ Sheeple "looking" knife
+ non-tactical look
+ punchdagger
+ cheap as dirt
+ easy to replace if lost or confiscated

- Not high tier steel
- Fake back-lock-folder

for SD, id highly suggest you to get and carry a gun. if its gotta be a knife, id suggest a spyderco civilian.

I you like the emerson commander you can also get a ZT knife and grind an L in front of the thumb grip on the spine
Did it myself with just a Diamond stone and about 5 hours of grinding:D
Opens wave style like a charm

If you have a dremel you can do it even better

At the end of the day will cost you less but give you the same performance. Both ZT200 and ZT200ST for example
use the same steel as Emerson commander (154CM) but cost a lot less

Sorry for the poor picture quality

Hi Everyone, Congrats with BM 710 in M390. It is a beautiful knife.
I would like to recommend you to try Kershaw Speed/Spec Bump.
I have BM 710, BM 581 in M390 but in the night I carry stonewashed SpecBump.
It has very interesting design and AO works great. The only minus is a clip - too visible.
I never deployed the blade against the person but used the handle as yavara couple of times.
Works great. You may find Speed Bump from Sandvik at around USD 40. So it will not cost too much
and trust me it is worth having in the collection.
Be safe and train to open BM710 a lot. I still have problems with opening it fast.
