Definitely a difference in size between large Schatt and large Queen toothpicks...

For some reason I believed that my incoming large Queen toothpick would roughly be about the same size as my large Schatt & Morgan (both actually made by Queen). Well, no... the S&M is thicker in frame and in overall length.

I don't believe the bigger Schatt will bully the smaller Queen... I mean, they are related, and I believe they can live side by side, no problem ;-)

How does the fin and finish compare? I've been thinking about picking up a couple S&M offerings, is it worth it? I only have one queen made knife and it's a Northwoods SFO and the fit and finish is superb, but i've heard questionable things about regular Queen and Schatt and Morgan.

On a side note, both are great looking knives, I love that amber honey bone stuff that Queen uses. I do not have a toothpick and threads like these are changing my mind about the pattern....

Here they are resting in this fast filling up display case :-)
I see a slight higher polish on the Schatt ats34 stainless blade over the D2 tool steel on the Queen. But, the finish is still nicely polished on the Queen. Obviously, you will find some extra bells and whistles on the Schatt... some pinched & grooved bolsters, the different blade steel, the more dolled up shield, blade swedges and stuff, but don't really see where the Queen gives up anything in it's overall construction quality. Actually, though the worm groove is kind'a cool on the Schatt... the Queen's amber stag bone scales on this are truly beautiful, in my opinion :-)

I didn't realize there was a size difference not that it is much at all. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Do you carry any of those? I think I remember you saying that you collect only?

The toothpick is the ultimate traditional pattern (IMO).

Hows the factory edge on your Queen made toothpicks. I'm really interested in the edge on the Honey Amber Queen w/ a D2 blade.
I have three of the D2 knives, a total of 6 blades and none of them will cut a piece of copy paper with out sawing through it. To be fair, after I whined about the edges to Queen, Mr. Daniels asked me to send them back to them to have the edge issue corrected.

I haven't done that yet.

I have a Queen Classic Doctor's knife that has a decent thin edge (and the knife is of the Daniel's era). But, my Coperhead of the prior era, has an obvious thick edge. This particular edge on this supposedly 2008 Queen toothpick is finer than the Copperheads edge... So, it seems like it can vary quite a bit. I would say my this latest Queen and my latest Schatt & Morgan, are in that okay range. My Tidioute #12 has a better edge

Nah... I get a certain enjoyment from this new traditional pocket knife collecting... A knife as a tool is great... but my having one at my disposal at all times, is all I need. I simply don't need more than one small knife for my daily needs. It is kinda like my being an athiest... I am fine with others having their beliefs, I only want them to respect mine (which is hard for many god believers to do). Kinda the same here, I collect my knives, others carry one or two, and yet others carry a bunch (by rotating them into edc)..... all good, I do my thing, you all do yours, no need to persuede me otherwise ;-)

Maybe this is a good post to ask this question.. Is there a difference in size between a Toothpick and Powderhorn?

Hmm, good question. I was under the impression that the powderhorn was simply the same frame as the #12 toothpick... just widened a little to add a second blade, and the main blade being wider (probably not longer). I am sure somebody here owns both and can offer a good comparison :-)

Toothpick/Powderhorn:
two names for the same knife and all its variations. I prefer toothpick - but then, I believe in God also!:)

I just got in my Northwoods 5 inch stag handled toothpick from ebay, today. I am pretty sure it was made by Queen, and matches my 5 inch Queen pretty close for blade shape, grind, etc. It is very well finished I believe the arrowhead shield is pinned. It was sharper then my Queen Zebra wood 5 inch, but the edge still needs reshaped a little bit out towards the point, however it will shave at least a little bit. Both have D2 blades, but the Northwoods has a higher polish on it.

On another note, while I do have a couple of big Case folding hunters that I have not carried or used, for the most part, I buy every knife with the plan to carry and use it, at least some of the time. That's where I get the real pleasure from my knives. I guess I will just have to take the loss and discount them for use, and even scratches, if I ever sell some of them.

I guess I am not a true collector, just an accumulator or maybe I am just a hoarder. :)

How I look at it, it's all good, whatever legal reason you may use or own knives, guns, or whatever.... is your own business. And I like reading about these items that we get use or enjoyment (or both) out of. You spend your dollars in whatever way you choose... and you'll never hear me question as to why you do or don't do whatever it is we are discussing. In this case here, on this forum, our common thread is traditional knives.... all good :-) In other words, live and let live..... enjoy! :-)

It was indeed made by queen. At that time, I think ol Dave used to touch up the sharpening some. He did, however believe pocket knives should be sold basically dull. Very strange.

I was comparing my new large Queen toothpick to my Tidioute #12 toothpick. Was comparing features and quality of assembly, not size and such. Price wise, the Tidioite cost me about $15 more, so they are comparatively priced. The f&f is comparative as well, but maybe just a tad bit better on one or the other, depending on the feature we are talking about. The bone scales on the Queen are actually better in it's execution. Part of that is based on opinion, the look being better on the Queen to me. And the other is a reality.... with the Queen being better buffed... where no cloth fibers get stuck on it while wiping down the knife, where the bone on the Tidioute does catch on cloth fibers. I like the fact that the Tidioute has pinned shield.... nice touch, period! :-) Both are attractive knives, and I am glad I purchased both. But admit that the Queen overall feels and looks like it should be the pricier product (even though it actually costs a bit less than the Tidioute). I again feel the Queen is the more bang for the buck. The carbon steel blade on the Tidioute is better sharpened, the lesser sharpened (but not bad) blade of the Queen, has the better D2 steel, imo. All good.. both nice knives :-)
