Hello,
I have been doing a little research on different stones for sharpening, deburring and honing and found a few sites that carry Degussit ruby stones. Can anyone who has experience with them tell me what the fine stone is comparable to as well as the medium? Can you also recommend them? I have read reviews from watchmakers but would like to see opinions from knife makers.

Thank you for your help,
Nathan

In my opinion, the finest grit stone you can buy. They don't wear, either.

They are made from synthetic ruby crystals and are a solid stone with no ceramic filler. They are great for fine shaping and flat stoning in watch and jewelry tasks. Quality is top rate.

That said, they are not any real advantage for sharpening knives than regular stones and such. Their high cost and brittleness are issues that don't transfer to regular knife use unless you do something like blade carving/sculpting. I guess the thin triangle stones could be good for cleaning up file work, but I find a #5 file does that best.
