Wow one mistake - which I went back to correct 3 times as a result of advice received from regular posters - and my post was locked up. I will go somewhere else.

Did you read the rules here? Why should this forum allow you to slip past the rules, and no one else?

Calm down, take a deep breath, go read the rules, and come back tomorrow and talk knives with us. This is a great place!

Agree with Blues Bender Armando. This is a great forum man, please read the rules and reconsider. You'll like it here :)

Another one bites the dust. The first thing you should have done is read the rules then tailored your actions and posts to those rules. They are in place and we all abide by them for a reason, civility.

I've been guilty of questionable / rude posts in the General forum. I took my slap on the wrist and moved on. As stated above, go reread the rules and try to understand why.

ETA: You've only been a member for two hours. Asking the worth of a knife is specifically prohibited, as stated in the rules. Your first post didn't go so well, not a big deal. Cough the $10 for a Basic membership or $30 for a Gold and start selling or trading. Looks like you have a decent Benchmade to start with.

Blues is right, and a very good guy. Quite a few of us are. Don't give up the ship...
Welcome, dammit!
:)

there is nothing about that thread that indicates even the slightest amount of intolerance. this is a wonderful place, with extremely knowledgable and friendly people. if you want to go, no one will stop you. I'll be like the others and suggest you take a breath or two and give us all another shot. we all play by the rules here..

I suggest you start over and just talk about knives, your knife if you like. You have not been a member long. The one BIG rule here is about value and posting pricing.

ok what is wrong of discussing/asking the value of a knife by nonpaid members, like the thread about sebenza that got locked yesterday soon after some informative and meaningful discussion just started?

Top right hand corner of your screen...."Log Out"

This is a great forum, but it like anything else, it will never be for "everybody"

The op was made aware of the rules and encouraged to edit the post, which he did.
There is nothing that I know of against the rules in the edited op.
I've seen other posts that went exactly the same way without closure.

We can debate every rule however:

A: It's not our forum.

B: The rule explains why that is a rule.

There is a sticky at the top of many of the forums, including the General Forum:
NEW MEMBERS :: Please read this :: WHAT IS MY KNIFE WORTH?

In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. This rule applies throughout the site.

In other words, without a paid Gold membership, you don't get to ask about sale values. Too many people abused this question to hint they had a knife for sale, which you need that membership for.

I was disappointed about that too. Felt like it was going to be a good thread. But, had the OP made his statement in a different manner the thread would probably still be open. We must choose our words carefully so that Mods have no reason to close threads. Rules are rules and we shouldn't fault the Mods for doing their job. The rules are there for a reason. I feel like maybe I should have started another thread with something like, "Sebenza hard use and alternatives" or the OP could get a Gold membership and support the forum.

I'm a Mod at another forum. Believe me, rules are set in place to protect both the owner and it's membership.

Funny story-

After I posted in that thread, just for fun I went and took a picture of my AFCK's to post in that thread (who doesn't like pictures? ;)).

It took me a little time and effort to get the picture taken (dig out knives from drawer, find camera, set up picture), then I had to upload the picture into my computer, and then upload it into my Photobucket account.

Then I come back to Bladeforums to post my pic, and the thread is locked :(. Oh well.

I have no opinion on why the thread was locked, other than it looked like a judgement call, and the job of the mods is to make that judgement.

As for the OP, if you are interested in knives you have more to gain by sticking around then you do by leaving. But that's your choice. I thought it was encouraging that you did edit your post without responding defensively to the suggestion (as some people would have).

Anyways, I'm going to go ahead and post my picture here. Why not. I went through the trouble to get it here, so I'm gonna post it, dammit, and this time nothing is gonna stop me (provided this thread hasn't been locked :D).

The top two have been modified. The top one more modified, including an improvised home-made thumbstud. The bottom knife is pristine, never used or carried, still has the factory edge.

The top knife was my work knife for a while and it saw a lot of use (shipping dock).

I started with two AFCK's, and it became my favorite folder. Then I heard it was going to be discontinued, so I bought 3 more so I would have a lifetime supply. Then my taste in folders changed, I retired my work AFCK, and they've been sitting in a drawer ever since (over a decade). I keep the pristine one wrapped up to protect it from scratches.

There. Now I have closure :D.

The intolerance is actually on your end. I read your thread and you were not shown any disrespect or anything of the sort, not even so much as a warning or infraction.. Your reaction though was disproportional, in line with being extremely thin skinned. We don't delete accounts, you can log out at the top right side of the page. Best of luck to you.

^ +1 To the part in bold!

Thanks for the closure & pictures, killgar! This Benchmade model, has always been one of my favorites. I love the sleek looking design! Just out of curiosity: the top one pictured (the one with the rudimentary thumbstud). Is there a washer & nut, on the other side?

Here's an "exploded" pic-

The order, from right/top to left/bottom- threaded aluminum post, 1/2" sealing washer (rubber washer bonded to concave steel washer), blade, sealing washer, washer, 8-32 screw. All parts available at Home Depot, and Lowes. Probably elsewhere too.

The sealing washers are a perfect fit for the AFCK opening hole. The rubber portion press-fits into the hole, but the metal portion is too big to pass through.

The aluminum threaded posts are sold individually and come in a variety of lengths. The one I used is 1/8th" long (a longer one can always be filed down).

I had to cut away some of the rubber inside the sealing washer on the side of the blade opposite the screw in order for the post to fit through the washer.

In regards to the threaded posts, the ones sold at Home Depot have thick edges around the head, but the ones sold at Lowes have tapered edges giving them a smoother, lower profile (at least those are the ones they sold the last time I was there). I used one from Lowes.

I was very happy with how easily it all went together and how well the stud performed. It was much easier to operate than the hole, especially with gloves on. That was my experience anyways.
