So I sent an email to rick hinderer knives with this idea for their xm 18 knife line.
I'm curious what you guys think and would anyone buy this knife package I'm calling it the (xm18trio)
If it sucks comment below
If you would buy it comment below.
Thanks Jonathan barnes.

Hey guys love your knives and just had and idea I thought maybe worth passing along to you guys since you guys offer a lot of interechangablitiy within the xm 18. This is probably not possible to produce, but maybe rick the brain behind his knives might know if it's possible. I'm not a knife maker.

K here we go.
How about offering on standard xm 18 knife be it what ever blade shape comes standard and then offer the other two or three knife blades with different grinds that fit that same knife and lock face. that way the user might feel like carying a spanto one day then a skinner next week. Maybe the next month a wharncliff. Everyone's flavor changes. Maybe this isn't the best marketing idea for profit but you'll have to crunch the numbers factor in and see if the cost of two extra blades and a mark up Is worth it. It sure would be neat and if I can save a little bit of money buying the (xm18 trio) that would be cool and I have the option to switch blade design without haveing to buy a whole knife. You already do it with scales. You offer different scales so people can change flavors without having to buy a whole new knife why not interchangeable blades too. I know you might have to engineer a steel lock insert that doesn't ware like titanium does because if a user kept the same blade in to long then that ti lock face wouldn't line up after swapping out wth the other blades. Just an idea
Let me know if this is utter bullshit or a good idea. I'm only curious if this is possible. I got the idea from seeing strider buck knives offering separate blades. So it's not like I'm inventing the idea. I only wanted to share it with a company that produces a knife worth doing it on.
Thanks for listening.

If Rick made it that far.....that's exactly when he stopped reading. You realize your recommendation is asking him to cut into his sales and profit margin right? Why would any successful businessman agree to that?

turns out he thought it was a good idea and might try it down the road. And he's even done it in the past he said with one standard blade and a secondary training blade. His words

As far as profits go that's why I said he'd have to crunch numbers and factor in cost of material and then add markup. Guess you didn't read that far maybe so. I was more so curious if anyone thought it worth owning. Not curious about making hudge money

Okay example
one hinderer xm 18 knife cost $425

I don't know what materials cost so this is just an example.
If Each addition blade cost the consumer a $100, and each blade cost $50 in material than that's 50% mark up so buying three xm18s would regularly cost $1275

However One xm trio setup with two extra blades cost $625 or whatever it works out to be.

Others will still want to own a whole other xm18 I would too but owning the trio setup would be great too since I can't afford 3 hinders at one time. It's a cost saver for those of us that aren't rich but want to own a xm18 with more than one blade grind. I think my point is it can be made profitable.

Question is will it sell, and I guess not since this thread has had only one ( basically it sucks) response. seeing it not being profitable. I guess I won't go into business making knives like this. Lol
