Just a moderator's comment:
Deleting a post is poor forum etiquette unless there was a problem with the post's content, location, or conduct of other posting members.
Lack of interest in a four hour old post isn't a valid reason at all. If you don't want to continue a thread, the best thing to do is close it.

I apologize if it seemed to be poor etiquette. Even though it was just 4 hours old, it had a 100 reads. I figure poor interest if I ask 100 people an opinion and they do not care to respond Not sure how to close, could you direct me on how to do it.

I would kindly recommend that you repost, but give it more time. 4 hours is nothing, even IF 100 people looked at it. I remember posting a picture of a knife I was proud of, asking others for their opinions. I don't remember how many hundreds of lookers I had, but only one guy said something like, "nice job".....days later. What that told me was....I need to do better work!!!! Now you have a BUNCH of people curious! repost! repost! repost!

Thanks for the kind explanation samuraistuart.
It was not realy important to begin with and I felt kinda stupid voiceing it, that is part of the reason I deleted it.
I had made the statement, something to the effect of "I always wondered why the price of bowies was so high'. I prefaced the statement with the fact that I was not putting myself in the company of master builders, but counting myself as a noob.
But since I had started one, I had come to the realization of how much work goes into one, if for nothing else but the amount of grinding it took to get one into shape.

I saw your OP, and felt it was a good point. I was surprised you pulled it.

Sometimes looking at viewer reads is misleading. many just click to see what the post was about. This is especially true if the title is a bit misleading, or appears to be sales related.

I often explain reads as people in a football stadium. You might yell, "Go Big Blue", and no one will come over to discuss how the team is doing this year. That doesn't meant that all 5000 people don't care about the team.

I read the post too, and my first thought was "this post will get pulled because a registered user is talking about value/pricing." No point posting in a topic that will be pulled.

I see now I was wrong about the likelihood it would get pulled.

It's also important to note that it was originally posted at 7:12AM, and most people who could answer a ST question were probably at/on their way to work, and just getting off work now. Most guys don't check in 3-4 times a day like me :o

Give it a day :)

So, do we get to know what you were asking? I'm curious too. 100 views out of 18,000 active users is nothing.

He already re-quoted it. He has started making a bowie and realized how much work goes into one, and now understands why they sell for such high prices.

Sorry just messing. I didnt even get to see the post.
And you're right. Bowies are expensive. Heck, most of the knives i see posted on this forum are WAY out of my price range.

I was too. As far as usefullness, I probably would use a 3.5 to 5 inch blade depending on contour a whole lot more then a bowie, but they are just so freaking cool, and the history of them with Mountain men, and mississippi sand bars, just find them interesting.

To me, since i was a kid, the bowie knife type belonged to the realm of dreams... i wanted to be Tarzan :)
Now i wannabe a knifemaker ;) same ol' dream!! still i make some knives every now and then, and enjoy it a lot!!

cheers

Stefano
