So not only do I have to deal with my rights being violated by the state I live in. Now other forum members are refusing to ship to NY state!! Keep in mind that it is completely legal for me to own the knife I was offering to buy, I live upstate. I thought this was supposed to be a community, now we are segregating against each other?

The main reason members cite for not shipping to NY is because of the knife laws. Some folks don't want the hassle, thanks to this guy right here. What is really insane is that some folks think the US consists of 48 states, ignoring Alaska and Hawaii for some reason. I wouldn't use the term segregation in this case as it's not accurate, rather discrimination may fit better. In the end, a person can sell to whomever they want to or not.

NickB12, why delete a legitimate question?

There is no reason for a private seller to fear NYC policy. NYC has no access to US mail or UPS or FedEx. It only targets large internet stores for the fines it can impose.

My comment was meant to echo the numerous threads I've read on the matter. It was a good topic IMO. Oh wells.

I deleted it because I didn't want to cause any problems. I was aggravated and just venting. In the end you can sell to whoever you want. I realize that, but unfortunately it's the state I live in. This is the first time I've ever heard from someone that they refuse to deal with me because I live in NY, it was kind of a shock.

Well Nick I think this law stinks . If I ever post anything for sale that you want I would have no problem shipping to New York . I really don't know what the fine would be or what kind of jail term they impose on a private citizen for a violation but I think it would be very unlikely someone would get caught doing it.

I have seen ads before with no shipping to NY, I just move on, no reason to get all worked up over it. It was all just because some DA wanted to make a name for himself, nothing else. The rest of the state is fine, hell even NYC is not that horrible for shipping knives to. The DA just went after a few big online dealers, one is a BF dealer here, Blade HQ, they tried to nail them pretty hard. Good luck in your search, no need to get all worked up, I use to all the time!! Not any more, there is plenty of good folks that will deal with us New Yorkers!
