I think Chronovore is just trying to say that fake, rip-off brand knives that have stolen designs can still function as a tool. Like, a Ganzo RAT can still separate material and that. Which is not mutually exclusive with disapproving of Ganzo morally and not using them, right?

I absolutely think a Ganzo RAT ripoff could work as an EDC knife to 80% the capability of the knife it mimics, but that isn't the issue when it comes to me not buying it.

More or less. Discussions of build quality and the like should be genuine. If there is an issue there, talk about it. If somebody wants to talk about the moral, legal, economic, or political issues; then do that (in the appropriate forums). Just don't conflate things like "Company A makes other models with copied design elements" or "Company B donates money to objectionable causes" with "knives from Company X perform poorly" or "knives from Company Y have poor fit and finish".

I'd be glad to compare and contrast the two specific knives you mentioned elsewhere within the greater EDC community. Unfortunately, the Rat-like Ganzo with an Axis-like lock is likely to run afoul of the rules here.

Ganzo's original stuff in Chinese D2 should be fair game, whether or not that means dealing with an angry mob of peasants wielding torches and pitchforks. People tend to forget that this line of original knives in Chinese D2 and G-10 with steel bearings came out before brands like Civivi and Tangram shook up the budget knife world. It was a big deal then. They still tend to be solid bargains but are less of a big deal now that other Chinese manufacturers have upped their game. For instance, now you can get a Petrified Fish in Chinese D2 with a better heat treatment, G-10 or Micarta, and ceramic bearings for around the same price.

Fun story time. When I was about 5 or 6, my folks popped a bowl of popcorn for me to chow down on. But I got the bright idea to feed it to the deer in the backyard annnnd managed to entice one inside the house because I thought it would make a great pet.
