(( 22 posts removed as off-topic from a thread on "Regular Sebenza's" ))

Deleted.

While I stand by my original comments, Esav has deemed it necessary to moderate the original thread, and personally finds my post ridiculous. In light of this, it would seem that obviously the discussion isn't appreciated on Bladeforums, and therefore probably isn't worth having.

Sorry if you guys don't agree with my tastes. No need to get riled up. Resorting to putting people on ignore lists, flaming, and using condescending language is unnecessary.

I sincerely regret that my post caused such an emotional response. No need to take offense, it's just a knife.

Apologies to the OP if your thread got knocked off track.

Thanks,

-Freq

Just buy a sanrenmu 710. It's pretty much the same knife, that is not quite as nice, nor does it hold an edge as well. But it only costs 8 bucks or so, so when you lose it you won't feel bad.

I carried a Sebenza for a long while, until I got a 710. Now the Sebenza just sits.

Can you give more info on this knife, preferably a link? Also, by 8 bucks, do you mean $8, and it's relatively comparable to a Sebenza? This has more than piqued my interest.

The SRM 710 is a Chinese knock off. It is comparable to the Sebenza in general appearance only. Blade steel is the same stainless used in the Byrd, SOG, and Spiderco Chinese knives, so depending on the heat treatment it should be adequate for general light duty use. Of course there is the ethical issue of whether or not to support a maker who pirates designs. It's kind of like wearing a $25 Rolex. Your call. You can get them at brillantstore.com.

I pretty much disagree with you. The attention to detail on the Sebenza is nicer, as are the materials....but the function is the same. A $4000 rolex functions differently than a $40 knockoff. Both knives have a framelock. Both cut things. FYI every Sanrenmu 710 I've seen has come far sharper from the factory than any CRK folder I've owned. CRK's priced for their knives are outrageous IMHO. And while the Sebenza is a classic, and it is a fantastic design...it is also boring.

FYI I think Rolex's are overpriced luxury items also.

Not even in the same ballpark or on the same planet....

I can cut things with a sharpened rock or a piece of chipped ice so that's not saying much.

Light duty use? I'd be interested to see some proof that the 710 is less durable than the Sebenza. And it kind of isn't like wearing a $25 rolex. A $25 dollar rolex doesn't have an automatic movement, and it likely keeps poorer time than a rolex. All my Sanrenmu 710s open smooth as butter, smoother than my smal Sebenza. They also have a blade profile that is better for slicing, and as far as I can tell, hold an edge almost as well as any knife from CRK that I've owned. Ethical issues? Sure I guess...but the design is modified about as much as lots of manufacturers modify their knives in comparison to competitors. I'm all for supporting manufacturing at home, but you are talking $8 vs. $360 for an object that goes in your pocket, who's sole purpose is to cut things.

I have a lot of very nice, very expensive knives. The only one I carry nowadays is the 710.

In any case, it is an option for the OP.

They say everyman has his price. Yours is about $300

My question for you is, why do you have the nice and expensive knives if you like the Sanrenmu so much and all you think a knife's sole purpose is to "cut things".

I'm starting to suspect you're the owner of Sanrenmu..... because nobody else in their right mind would say the sanrenmu 710 is just as good as a sebenza.

If you just look at that $8 price alone and start thinking they have to make a profit selling those knives at $8 then start thinking about the quality of the materials and the price of those materials compared to that Sebenza.....

I would bet the pivot on the Sebenza costs more by itself than that $8 knife.

I've never really understood why someone would want to own expensive knives and just use something on par with with a $5 convenience store knife.

Some people are just collectors. I don't see much wrong in that but I wouldn't take their advice on a cheap clone being as good as a Sebenza. Nothing wrong with appreciating a well made product.

In the end a knife is just a knife. I have CRKs and carry them every day, but those SRMs offer an amazing value.

If someone wants a reliable and well built knife, no more no less, SRM will serve them well. we are perfectionists here to a ludicrous degree.

the SRM - opens smooth, has no play, locks up good, takes a good edge, and holds it decently well. I would advise buying one and seeing if you're satisfied before you go blow $400 and say wtf is this?

Look at it this way...

I work in new building construction, and I use and abuse a knife on a daily basis. Now what makes better sense, clipping a Sebenza in my pocket before I go to work, or a Sanrenmu?

There are a lot of good beaters out there in the $30 - $50 range (Folders), then there is the mid range and higher end depending on what someone wants.

I wouldn't be carrying a gas station or flea market knife that's for sure.

Not sure how an $8 flea market knife could relate to a $400 knife in any way.....

How in the heck did this turn into a "Sebenza vs it's piece of crap china knockoff" thread:confused::p

I'm sure the OP does not give a crap about a knockoff, and will try to find the knife he wants. I don't think he's worried about price, just the fact they don't make such a fine model any longer.

To the OP...keep and eye on the exchange and the Bay. They will cost more than a new Classic or 21, but like you, I think the Regular is the bomb. You will find one if you stay on it. I've looked for a few certain knives for a year or longer before I found them.
It won't take you near that long to find a Regular, but I do understand your frustration that you can't get one right away.

I am not sure either, it's really laughable trying to compare or even using the 2 in the same post...

We have the $8 cheap gas station knockoff and people are acting like it's more than that....

That's funny....

people always bring up the two knives in the same sentence because they look almost identical, thats why. other than that they are nothing alike lol.

I here you Jim, but it is making me laugh though:D

This thread may have the most thread drift and hijacking as I've seen here at BF:p

I bet the OP is tripping over people suggesting an $8 knockoff copy after he was quite clear the Regular Sebenza was the knife he wants. If he wanted to know about $8 knockoffs compared to his beloved Regular Sebenza I could understand the off topic post.

This really is cracking me up though, so I kinda hope the OP doesn't mind all the drift:p:D

We have been seeing a lot of that cheap gas station knockoff again around here lately in threads....

It's actually not a cheap gas station knife. They manufacturer most of CRKT's knives, and several Spyderco's.

Please don't turn this thread into a USA vs. CHINA politics thread.
Nonsense. Has nothing to do with politics.

Sanrenmu manufacture bottom-of-the-line-knives, which you are laughably comparing to a knife which is the standard of the industry, from a manufacturer who has won quality awards for years.

Now, back on my ignore list you go.
