..Is it a very good knife? I'm assuming with the flat grind and grip design it's a great EDC knife. I'm looking into a few now. Does anyone have something to say about theirs?

Thanks,
Will

I hear great things about it. It's supposed to be a classic.

I will be getting a Waved Delica very soon. It's kinda small; if you want a bigger one, go with the Endura. It's supposed to be the same design, only bigger.

Ah it's a pretty good size for what I'd be using it for. I'm talking about the ZDP 189 version, plain edge foliage green. Looks neat!

Another question...since it is flat ground, or sabre ground...is sharpening any different? Will a GATCO system handle it? I'm curious because I could be on the brink of purchasing both.

I carry either my Waved Delica 4 or my Native (or sometimes both) every day. They are both the perfect size for me for EDC. The handle on the Delica is very comfortable for me both in the hand and in the pocket.

As far as the different grinds go, they shouldn't make any difference for most sharpening systems. Flat ground, saber ground, hollow ground, etc. mostly refer to the primary grind of the knife. They'll make a difference in how the knife performs in cutting certain materials, but when you sharpen the knife you are removing material from a secondary bevel which thins to form the cutting edge.

My D4W is saber ground and works very well as a work knife cutting lots of cardboard and plastic straps. My flat ground Dragonfly actually goes through cardboard easier, but I like having a slightly larger knife than that for EDC and while I wouldn't consider myself a steel junkie, the VG-10 of the Delica does hold an edge longer than the AUS-8 of the Dragonfly. I'll eventually spring for a Caly 3 so I can have the best of all worlds (or at least I think so).

The Delica is great, I carry one fairly often and like them allot.
The full flat ground G-10 Delica is one of my many fave. knives

I have an E4 waved. . . carried it for two years. . . no complaints over steel or 'sabre' grind yet. . .get one!

I carry a ZDP 189 Delica every day at work. From a using perspective, I think it's about as perfect as a knife can be in terms of balancing utility with dealing with sheeple. I'd rather carry an Endura, but most people simply can't see an Endura, or any other knife of that size, as being anything other than a weapon. I even get a reaction to my Delica, from time to time, from people who can't see ANY knife of any size as being anything other than a weapon. I guess I should be glad such people don't have knives, since the only use they see for a knife is as a weapon!

Anyway, there's a reason why the Delica, in its various permutations, is the biggest seller for Spyderco of all time. It's the best of most worlds, in my opinion.

Both the Delica 4 in sabre-ground ZDP-189 and British Racing Green (BRG) FRN and the flat-ground VG-10 model in Foliage Green G-10 are fine knives...perfect EDCs (so much so that I have new backups put away for both)!

They're both in my EDC rotation. ;)

The G-10 handled flat-ground is a bit better slicer, but is quite a bit heavier than the FRN-handled models due to the full steel liners and spine. Again, both are great! :D

I love my Endura and I'm planning on getting a Delica soon.

The only thing I can remark on about them is that the handle seems maybe a little too adjusted for a specific hand size sometimes. I have big hands and sometimes, in certain grip styles, I feel that the big finger coil that is closest to the blade isn't quite big enough for my index and long finger and I find my long finger ending up too far down on the handle.

On for example the Manix, this isn't a problem, because on that one there is only a smaller finger coil meant for only your index finger and you can keep the rest of your fingers anywhere you want on the handle.

It really isn't that big a problem, because if you want to choke up close to the blade, it fits perfectly, which is the grip you use the most anyway, but when you want to hold the knife in more of a fencing style grip with the tip pointing more forwards, it poses a little bit of a problem.

Anyone else who feels the same?

the delica:

there is a reason this knife is still in rotation and going strong. The delica is a simple and user friendly design that makes use of every available inch it had to fill your hand with handle and deep into what you want it to. The VG10 steel is very durable and has a keen edge keeping ability that i like. The ergos on the handle are pleasing and in all my years of carrying them (I have carried a delica since i was in high school that was 1994 and it was a delica 1 serrated) and i still have my first one...and every know and again i still carry it becuase it is just a fine little knife.
The crew at spyderco really thought the design out and made BIG improvments when they introduced the 4th generation of delicas and enduras. The biggest change for me wa the steel liners. The liners made a medium duty knife jump straight over the line into HARD WORKER heavy duty! I have been most impressed with the blade design as well. The tip has been strengthend and has more of a sheeps foot feel to me. as for the grinds, i have never had a problem wit the current grind for everyday use, but for slicing the flat grind is king.
in conclusion: ....i use these knives every day. I can say that without a doubt they are tougher and i am and thats how it should be.

hope that helps

the delica's one of the greatest knives of all time. top five, for sure. the best 'do all' pocket knife on the market, from business man to woodsman. sharp, tough, comfortable, light, slim, and relatively cheap. can't ask for more. i have a few.

Alright. Probably my last question on this thread. Is the Delica/Endura line made in the U.S. or Japan?

Thanks for all the input so far,
Will

Dr Heelhook, The Delica is the same for me as the Endura is for you. My middle finger kind of naturally falls right on the "point" between the first two "choils". It's not really an issue as far as comfort goes because it's not a sharp point. My middle finger mostly only grips by pressure from the pad of the finger on the side of the handle anyway, so even if there was more of a point there I still wouldn't feel it much if at all. I think it would be nice to see that first "choil" shrunk down for just the index finger and have the second one be big enough for the middle and ring fingers. I think it would provide a slightly more secure grip. This is getting kind of nit-picky though. The Delica is an awesome and comfortable knife just as it is.

Way ahead of ya...ordered it last night from KnifeCenter along with a GATCO Deluxe.

Yeah, like I said, it's no big deal. The pros weigh up the cons.

Have any of you had trouble with shipping from KnifeCenter? I put in my order Saturday night, and I still haven't gotten it processed. I can't track my order because I guess it hasn't been put in yet....is that just because it was over the weekend?

Thanks,
Will
