Delica blade play

I have a relatively unused Delica 98 and noticed that the blade can be moved vertically when I pull up on the blade (edge facing down). I don't need to pull up hard either. Is this normal?

I have 3 of these beasties and there is no blade play in any direction in any of them. No, I do not believe this is normal.

I have found that mine does that too. I never noticed it until recently and I have been carrying it daily for almost a year. I think it is something that will happen with wear and tear. The play in mine is very slight and seems to be more of an annoyance than a bad effect on the performance of the knife.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

I have 2 Enduras and 3 Delicas. On one Endura and one Delica there is slight play if I use heavy pressure in cutting. Ironically, both the knives with play are the older, plastic-clip versions, though I'm sure it is a strictly random thing.

These days when I buy knives in person I will check for proper blade centering, vertical/horizontal blade play, proper fitting, etc.

Some vertical play under hard pressure is normal. It is called "pop-up" in Seki and is part of the lock geometry. We try to keep it to a minimum.

Uccman - shouldn't occur under light pressure. You could send it in to us for a "look/see".
