Delica FFG..... Is why I quit buying knives!

About two years ago I bought a Delica 4 FFG in the color gray. The color is gorgeous as it matches the VG10 stainless color so well. It has been a great knife so far. It is so much better a slicer and much more comfortable than my 556 Mini Griptilian. The Grips handle is way to short, as it feels like if I get my whole hand on the handle, my knuckles will get hit if I cut agressively, but if I choke back to protect my knuckle, my pinky has to come off the knife, making it a weaker grip. No problem like with with the Delica 4 FFG the handle is plenty big. It really does cut like a lazer. The skeletonized liners are light enough but give the knife a perfect feeling heft. It's thin handle disappears in my pocket. This knife is pretty much why I have quit buying knives. Simple yet functional. I bought one for a family member who has a construction company. He's used dozens of knives but said "When I wear this one out, I'm going to buy another". Thanks for the great knife Spyderco.

Of my 40 something Spydies the Delica has not been represented in my collection but I do have 2 on the way and a set of Putman aluminum scales. Looking forward to it with all of the positive endorsement this little blade gets.

Different strokes?
I prefer the mini grip to the Delica all day

Prefer the Endura to the Delica

I have always carried a Delica Spyderedge in my left front pocket, and probably always will. I too would be satisfied if it was my only folder.

I love my Delica 4 with the Wave, especially because it has custom skull scales, but I will pretty much always continue to buy knives. I just can not help it, I like to carry the Delica but usually I carry at least two knives any way and I like to change it up a bit. It is always nice to experience all types of knives. As a primary knife a Delica can handle my usually edc tasks, but I still like a bigger blade like the Endura. So many good knives to choose from, and I would put many others above the Delica, but usually that is me going up in price too.

I'm the same way, while I do have great affection for the delica and carry mine every once in awhile (like when I know food prep is going to be up to my EDC that day) I much prefer my 555 mini-grip.

If somebody asks me for a recommendation under $50 I always say the delica, you can readly find them under the 50 mark while the sub $50 mini-grip's are far between and probabily well used, for a non-knife person who has $50 to spend I don't doubt the delica will be the last knife they buy (that is if they dont become addicted to spyderco's/knives)

I feel the same way about my Para2
I have sold of most of my other brand knives and lost some interest in what I thought I wanted.
Except now I want more Pra2s in different colors including the Gray.

I'm kind of late to the Spyderco party, but after getting my digicam/DLC PM2, I have acquired one each of the Tenacious, Dragonfly, Meerkat, Superleaf, and Ti Salsa. I had a S35VN PM2 for a while, but foolishly traded it away for a grail, should've just kept it and put the grail on the CC, lol! Anyway, I need to pick up a Delica and/or Endura sometime soon and give it a try.

Just some Delica eye candy to add. :)

Definitely a keeper.

^^ That's B A right there

A Gray Delica 4 was my first Spyderco and, though I have been selling some off lately, that Delica isn't going anywhere.

Its way too comfortable to carry and fits my hand nicely, not to mention the FFG vg10 blade takes an awesome edge so easily.

The knife I carry the most is the G10 Delica. But it will be replaced by a flat ground G-10 Rookie, if Spyderco ever decides to make one.

I love spyderco and the delica is a great knife but for me the mini grip is a better knife specially the lock up . Slicing goes to the delica by far but the fun factor goes to the grip axis lock .

Hi Dagger,

Thanx for the kind words. 20 years of refinement (evolution), 4 sets of tooling, numerous steels, many materials and thousands of comments and suggestions from our highly valued customers should help make a good product. :)

No thank you Sal for making and standing behind a great differentiated product. I have a Delica, Native and a Sharpmaker. I gave a Delica and a PM2 to my brother in laws.

About 3 years ago, I asked for a SM for Christmas. My brother in law got it for me, as I sharpen his knives. Christmas morning came and I opened it up. To my suprise, one of the white stones was missing. A man has to play with his knife presents on XMas morning, so I was disappointed. That said, I called customer service and they made it right and sent me another one. I love that system as well.

I have a leek, 2 minigrips, a Vantage and which are the closest competors I have in my collection. The Delica is above them in my view. Simple, reliable, functional..... and Cool.

Take the mini grip and a FRN Spydie and drop it on its end onto a ceramic tile floor from 5' feet. One will have a tiny scratch and the other will get a trip back to Benchmade and they will honor their warranty when they replace the broken plastic handle. Trust me on this. I have personal experience. LOL

I think the Axis Lock is really cool. I love flicking mine. That said, who wants a broken spring just at the wrong time. Imagine a trip on the Appalacian Trail with a broken lock. I know, jam a stick in there and go on, but I'm over the cool factor. Give me something that will not fail is a quality in it's own right.

Totally agree with everything said, the delica is for sure one of the best knives on the market. I love the mini grip too, to be fair. Those two are where I feel you really start paying for luxury over performance; that is, it begins to get very expensive to gain significant performance increases over the delica. Vg10 steel is no slouch, and does just about everything well, the back lock is strong and reliable, and the overall design just plain works. I've used many delicas over the years, and they've always been trusted companions. In fact, probably a little too good; I've bought many many knives, taken a good hard look, and realized that they don't really do anything THAT much better than my delica, so off to the exchange they go.

And I have to say, the talk about the delica 5 has me nervous, something about fixing what isn't broken and so on...

Silverdagger,

You and your family member are both in denial about your addictions. The Delica isn't supposed to permanently satisfy your needs. It's supposed to be a "gateway drug", leading to the purchase of many more fine Spydercos. I started with a Delica, now I have 11 Spydercos.

You are also not supposed to wait for it to wear out before buying another. It may never wear out.

Give in to your addictions. There are so many wonderful Spyderco knives to buy.

It's funny, I feel very similarly about my Endura 4 with super blue blade and grey FRN scales. I've got knives that I paid 10 times as much for, but the Endura seems to find its way into my pocket more often then any other. The Delica and Endura are seriously AMAZING knives
