A friend of mine found a spyderco delica serrated in a pawn shop for a few bucks. it is frn handle, but it is G-2 steel:confused: , can anyone tell me when this was produced, and compare it to a steel I am more familiar with(420, 440, Aus 8, ATS-34, ect.) Thank you for any info, and thank god for pawn shops that don't have any idea what they are selling.:D

I have the same knife, G-1 same as G-2, performance similar to what you might expect from ATS-55 or AUS-8. Has the FRN clip, not sure of the birth date, others will chime in for that info.

Salty, I'm guessing I bought my Delica new around 1992-93, the blue one you see in the photo. It has G2 steel. It was a long time ago, so don't quote me. Still nice and tight after all these years.

Your time frame of 92 to 93 is about right. I bought a G2 Endura late 92 just after my brother got a G2 Delica. He still carries that Delica every day and it gets used a lot. In 2005 I bought him a Rescue Jr as he is a paramedic and i thought it would be more suitable for his daily needs.

He thinks I'm crazy cause I now have 40 Plus Spydies. Still like my first G2 Endura. Btw, I carried it daily for a few years before I sharpened it!

Andre, thanks for the backup, yup, G2 turned out to be some pretty good steel. Didn't know much about different steel types back then, life was simpler I guess.
