^ When doing pre-orders it's important to get on the list early in the process. I've done a lot of pre-orders (20+?) and I've had all my orders filled. But I keep an eye on the forums and dealer sites and manage to get on the list early. If you don't get on the list early it may take awhile for your order to get filled or it may not get filled at all. If you're late, then I suggest keeping your pre-order and then watch for the knife to become in stock at another dealer. Once you find it in stock elsewhere, place your order and then cancel your pre-order with the original dealer.
I received notification a couple days ago that my pre-order for the Delica Wharnie HAP40 was shipped. I should have it Monday. I was on the list early but it still took some time to ship after they started to drop. I could've easily ordered from another dealer, cancel my pre-order, and have my knife sooner. I was pretty confident my pre-order would be filled so I decided to have patience and just wait.
