Delica hap40 wharncliffe

I got mine from DLT and it does not have the lanyard/pivot hole in the clip. I would be miffed but I always put deep carry clips on my Spydies. It would be nice if Spyderco offered to make it right however in case I want to sell or trade it in the future as it clearly had the wrong clip installed.

I sent an email through their contact us page a few days ago inquiring as to whether replacement clips with the lanyard holes are available but haven't heard back.

I have two recent Delica 4 Warncliffe HAP 40 sprint runs, both from DLT Trading about three weeks apart. One has a lanyard hole, the other does not.
Simply a data point as in multiple decades carrying a pocket knife I have never, not once, used a lanyard.

Long time fan of Spyderco, bought my first Delica sometime in the 90's with an integral clip.

I'm not a big lanyard user either but if the holes in the scales are covered by the pocket clip then it's a design miscue. I do use a lanyard with the Salt series and would be annoyed if I couldn't easily tie a float on the end.

What are the Date codes for these knives?

From another thread

no hole is Nov 2017 (KQ)
with the hole in the clip is Dec 2017 (LQ)

Yes, correct. Though these were purchased quite recently.
What I was attempting to convey is that for me a covered lanyard holes is a non issue. YMMV
I dig the knives. In fact I bought another to give as a gift after a few days with mine. I will, however, gift the one with the lanyard hole on the one in a million chance my nephew reads this thread. I would not want him to feel slighted. :)

I think not having the option of tip down carry is probably a bigger deal than the lack of a lanyard hole. Neither makes a difference to me personally and I am deeply in love with my HAP40 Wharncliffe.

I got a response from Spyderco CS yesterday in which they confirmed there was an assembly mixup and they're sending a clip with the lanyard hole my way. I'll be glad to have the correct clip and appreciate good customer service.

I’d expect nothing less from such a well loved, reputable company. :)

Glad that Spyderco will take care the mistake.

I’m curious on how the mixed up happened. The maker has been making Endura, Delica and Stretch for years, and should have the assembly line regulated as standard. (Even a Jazzlica is still a Delicao_O).

Mine came with no hole, but I swapped it with the pakkawood delica which has no hole in the scales.

A true workhorse. I love this fugly knife!

I used mine to cut open 90 bags of mulch today, among other things. Degraded the edge. Used the sharpmaker, cbn>grey>white rods. Back to perfect!
I did leave it in a leafy area and had trouble finding the burnt orange color. Enjoying this as a work knife, cuts great!

Got the replacement clip with the lanyard hole in the mail today along with a tube of blue loctite and a Para3 sticker -- gee, do you think they know I own five of those? This will be the only non wire clip Spydie that I'm leaving the factory (corrected) clip on as I like the burnt orange color and don't want it hidden with a deep carry. Thanks for the excellent CS experience Spyderco!

Got mine in the mail last week... pretty sweet, but this must be my sharpest out of the box Spyderco.
I am a wee bit scared. But a great knife, trimmed some leather pieces for fun, cut some tape etc... scary slicey...which is great!

IMG_0007.JPG My wharncliff Hap40 Delica arrived earlier in the week and I am warming up to the look of it.
It is super slicey and Hap40 has been an excellent steel for me.
My laminate lines are pretty good, not that really matters imo.

It is nice that everyone is getting bored with Hap40 and I didn't have to scramble when this was first released.
This steel is relatively easy to sharpen and holds a more than decent edge.
I am interested to see a wharncliff Endura now.

I've been eyeing the Hap40 Wharn Delica for a while but haven't had the funds. I love my delica wharn but it would be really nice to have upgraded steel. I'd even be happy with the S30V version over VG10
