Delica lock problem

I bought a new Delica 4 (black PE) a few months ago and since then its in my EDC rotation. Very nice knife but when I tested the lock yesterday and it gave away very fast in my hands, even whit applying only a small force. I didn't use any tools or vices, just in my hands and the same force you need to crush a tin soda-can sideways! I never had this problem with my (factory second) Native and i never disabused the knife or put it under extreme force. I use it just like a Opinel or small SAK, that is with care!

I’m already contacted the costumer service and (after a very quick reaction) they told me that it can be because of dirt in the lock or a defect. After assembling, cleaning and reassembling the knife the same ‘problem’ occurred. I send the knife to Golden next weak. Other than the lock-problem the knife is in perfect working order.

Does anyone have this same problem whit there new Delica?

The only Spyderco I had a problem with was my Endura Wave, which I felt had excessive blade play when I got it. It had no problems with staying locked, just a decent amount of play. I sent it in and within a couple weeks they had replaced it with a new one. The rest of my Spydercos have had great lockup and no problems, and it is good to know that when the rare defective product slips out they will make it right quickly. Spyderco's customer service is great, just send in the knife and they will do you right.

My D4 locks up solid, I have seen pictures of it apart and the locking surfaces looked impressive. You state that you had it apart, the problem should have been obvious at that point...I would think. The best thing to do is send it to Spydie which is what you are doing.

Mine seems to be rock-solid, tried with most of my might to get the lock to fail, couldn't.

Good plan to send it in, it sounds like a defect. My Delica's action and lockup rival that of knives twice its price.

Check the inside of the knife to make sure that you don't have something trapped in the lock. Pocket lint can do this sometimes. Clean it out with soap and water and a small brush and then dry and lubricate it. Good luck.

Mine are rock solid. Mine lock in with a very distinctive "click" and it's pretty easy to tell if something like lint gets in the lock. Even a tiny amount will dull out that sound. I carry mine loose and pocket lint does get in there a fair amount:)

That's the same exact result I had with my Endura Wave. Another example of great customer service by Spyderco.
