Well, i made a simliar post in General Blade a few days back, so here goes again. I was thinking of the Calypso, but everyone has sold out by now, so I need to decide between the Delica or the Native. I prefer something that slices well and has a fairly thing handle. Thanks

Native (but only the one with CPMS30V blade) should be your first. It just has to be. It was a first Spydie for me, and the one that started it all.

Then the VG-10 Delica can follow. It's real nice and all, but the Native will always have a special place in my heart... :)

Just my C$0.02 anyways... :P

The Native III will probably fit your hand better. IMO, it looks nicer than the Delica. So I say Native and get the Delica later for kicks and giggles:D .

Either the Delica or the Native are great knives for every day carry. My personal preference is the Native - the handle has great ergonomics and the blade is more robust. If you prefer a smaller handle and finer blade tip then the Delica would be your choice.

One difference between these two and the Calypso Jr. are that both the Delica and Native are tip-up carry while the Calypso Jr. is tip-down.

Dang-it, GarageBoy...Listen to me, and get the Native III!!!

try to hold them forst before you buy. I always hear people rave about the Native, but they have never felt comfortable in my particular hands, which are largish and thin. But the Delica feels great. So, you never know till you try them in person.

Ok, I'm going with the Native. I nice grip. Now S30v (I do have poor sharpening skills, learning on a Gerber LST) or VG10? Thanks

They're all good, but the Calypso, Jr. is only around for a limited time. You're going to end up with the other two (and love them all) anyways, so get the Calypso, Jr. while you can.

New Graham will have some back in stock in a couple days. They are well worth the price. It is the best looking Spydie I have seen in a while and VERY sharp out of the box.

Both of them where my EDC at different points. I would take the Delica all the way.

The volcano grip pattern, while ugly, does grip my hand better. The handle shape is much more comfortable imho too. Most importantly though... The blade on the Delica seemed to slice a little more effortlessly. Maybe others will disagree, but that is the way I found it.

About what to get now though... Get the Calypso Jr. It will slice better then either of them with that fully flat ground blade, and It's purtyful.
:D

IMO, I would get the Calypso Jr.!!!

As Jeff mentioned, New Graham should be getting another shipment in this week....get one while you can!!! I like both the Delica and the Native, but the Calypso Jr. is simply the best midsized Spydie, IMHO.

GarageBoy,

I differ from others here in that I much prefer the Delica to the Native. It just fits me a lot better. I have owned several of each, and I would chose the Delica hands down.

Delica! It has been my every day carry for quite awhile. The Endura is my other carry when I'm wearing jeans.

Garageboy,

OK - the calypso jr is a limited run of 1000. meaning, even if you wanted to, you won't be able to get it once they run out. that should be a big reason to get em.

delica and native, you can always get later.

tell you what, get the new grey calypso jr plain edge, and if you don't like it, I'll take it off you (email me off line and we can discuss details). get it from new grahams. they got them at $40 + some change only.

i don't believe you will be disappointed in the performance of that full flat grind. the swedges on the native just don't speak out to me, not on a package that size.

FULL FLAT GRIND ROCKS! trust me.

S30V is a better steel, but honestly, most people can't tell the difference during field use. I have used both spyderco VG10 and buck paul bos heat-treated S30V and S30V is only marginally better. sharpens up a bit easier BUT on that calypso jr. you'll find sharpening a breeze because of the full flat grind.

Delica is the better utility/slicer, if I am correct in understanding the priorities of Gboy from his post.

The Native is a strange knife. Hold it in your hand before buying. Some people love it, but others don't care for it at all.
