I just recently was gifted a Police 3 G-10 and I also have a Military. I am in and out of places were you cant carry a concealed weapon so I want to get something Spyderco that has a blade length of 3-3.5 inches.

Florida law is kind of vague about what a "common pocket" knife is but from my understanding a blade of 3.75" is ok and a blade of 4" might be considered carrying a concealed weapon. Point is I dont want to get kicked out of school for carrying a pocket knife thats too big .

Or is there something else you guys would suggest? I've also been thinking about a Para Military but I prefer to carry my knives tip up (right handed).

So what do you guys think?

The Delica 4 is a sub 3" (blade is just under 3") but yet the handle is still long enough to be comfortable. It is also a lock back, so I think It would fit into the "common pocket" category easily!

You're used to a full flat grind blade, so I think the G-10 Caly 3 would suit your needs very well. The deep carry wire clip looks more like a pen, and doesn't say "knife".

I guess I should add that I do love G-10 :)

I just looked at the Caly and it does look very nice but I really dont like wire clips at all. I wont take it out of the running yet but because of the clip it wont be at the top my my list.

Check out the scorpius. IIRC it was designed for such an application. It's my EDC, and I love it.

Caly3, Sage, UKPK, Para-Military if you like a longer handle ...........or the less expensive FRN handled options such as the Delica and Native.

.....look at the Byrd Robin and Meadowlark if you want a solid, budget carry.

I missed this the first time I read your post. I would make sure that your school doesn't have any of their own policies or even ordinances about what size knife is allowed.

I've looked....didnt find anything.

It says no guns but leaves everything else to Florida statutes....so I just have to go by FS.

That's cool, my alma mater University of Michigan had their own ordinances, so a person could face more than just institutional discipline if they were violated.

I'd go Caly 3 if your at school since the wire clip is very discreet. Tucked IWB into a pair of B-ball shorts, its not going anywhere no matter how fast you run.

In FRN handled knives, I really like the Delica Wave SE. Fun to play with, and has a very nice SE pattern that cuts smoothly.

I also realy like the centofante 4, which is very underrated.

The only thing I dislike about the clip on the Caly 3 is the way it tends to wear into the scale with side-to-side movement.

That's it. Other than that, it's an awesome setup. Deep pocket carry, the clip is barely visible on your pants pocket, and it holds on nice and tight.

I think the Caly 3 is the best designed knife I've handled so far. Handle is just the right size, choil is positioned in the right spot, the angle of the blade relative to the handle is slightly pistol-gripped but not enough to make the knife ungainly.

The other nice thing about it is that it looks slightly more friendly than the Delica or Endura. The blade looks smaller than it is because of the leaf shape.

Really, if you end up getting it, I think you'll be very happy.

Does the statute or case law specifically state a 4inch prohibition? Don't see it in the statute, might want to try a case law search. If you are in school, try Lexis or Westlaw, I don't have access anymore, but it should help you out a bit.

Im going off what I seen other places and this. It says 3 3/4" is ok and anything up to 4" is fine. http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=US&navby=case&vol=000&invol=02-8636

the court determined that a pocketknife with a blade of 3 3/4 inches "plainly falls within the statutory exception to the definition of 'weapon' found in section 790.001(13)." The complete analysis of the Florida Supreme Court on this issue was as follows: "In 1951, the Attorney General of Florida opined that a pocketknife with a blade of four inches in length or less was a 'common pocketknife.' The knife appellant carried, which had a 3 3/4-inch blade, clearly fell within this range."

But then here is says less than 4".

a knife with a blade of less than four inches was a "common pocketknife,"

I'm just trying to not ride the line with my Military and the Police 3 is clearly to large with a blade length of 4 3/8".

Overall I'm just looking for a smaller knife. Almost all of my knives are at least 3 1/2" in blade length.
