Hey People,

Hope everyone had a great xmas and looking fwd to New Years.

Now my birthday is Jan 15 and my adorable GF is open to giving me something sharp with a big hole and a spyder on it.

I have several Spydy's currently (Native III CE, Cento III, Meerkat, Bob Tzlr Jr, Rescue) and am looking to perfect my EDC carry (you know, the quest that will never end).

Previously I've looked at the Endura and Delica and thought 'I bet they do the job but they're just not quite 'pretty'/kewl enough (sorry vanity strikes). But now l've seen the D4 and E4 and I find myself with none of my previous doubts.

My question (after all the waffle) is this; What's the real difference between the Endura and Delica? Are they really more or less the same but with different missions? Ok the Endura is a lit longer bladed, but can I assume that it's merely a slightly more rugged version of the Delica or is there more to the story?

Your input would be awesome.

Thanks all.

they're both really the same blade, just different sizes. imo if you want an edc, the delica wins. the endura isn't a "small" knife. it's almost 9" open. whip that thing out and the sheeple will run for cover :D

oh and the new G-10 versions are coming out, so if you like G-10 wait for those. more expensive but imo worth it.

It is the same knife only bigger, so it isn't really more rugged. In fact, due to the magic of physics, it would likely take less pressure to break an Endura blade than a Delica blade...unless Sal quietly manufactured an extra strong lock on the Endura. I hasten to add the using a knife as it was designed; you would likely never see either knife lock break.

If your knife laws allow both sizes then the choice is personal, but if you have a length limit, the nanny state has dictated your choice for you. :D

For EDC the Delica is probably a bit more comfortable to haul around in a pocket all day. If you want to increase the "kewl" factor a bit, check out the waved version. I've been carrying a D4W for a few months now, and I still love hearing the blade snap open and lock as I pull it from my pocket.

I would guess that the .5mm thicker blade of the Endura would make it at least marginally sturdier than the Delica. By the same token, the thnner blade should make the Delica the better slicer of the two. Aside from that, it all comes down to size and weight.

I like the Delica better, it's small enough that I don't notice it in my pocket. The Endura is large enough you sort of have to "reach past it" to get your keys or change. The Delica has been large enough for most day to day tasks. It's a little small for cutting up larger vegetables and I don't think you could cut through bone with it, but it's fine for day to day stuff.

Cool, thanks guys. All your opinions make a lot of sense. For my EDC purposes I'm thinking that the Delica is going to win this one. I work in a Bookshop and the type of packaging and dispatch work that I do will prob match the D4 well.

As for the G10 version...hmmm...I have to try and concoct a reason for the lady to realise the importance of handle material in overall asthetic and funtionality (and other big complicating sound words used to baffle).

Thanks again

I prefer the Endura for EDC as it disappears in the pocket and isn't noticeably heavier than the Delica. It's larger blade is more useful IMHO. I don't think a longer handled knife is weaker than a shorter handled one. The Delica though a great knife is just a little too small for my tastes. The sheeple factor doesn't exist for me as I live in an area that has no blade limit and demands concealed carry:), I guess I'm just lucky.

Cheers,
Rob

A small boost in that direction: The G-10 versions are going to be flat-ground, which will make them marginally less rugged, but much better cutters.

i have a delica 3 and a pacific salt, which is more or less an endura. I will say that the endura is a really big knife. I find the delica just a bit too small for my tastes, but the endura is really just massive. It goes over poorly around sheeple, and the only comfortable place for me to carry it is IWB.

well you could say the G-10 is grippier, less prone to cut yourself, etc. safety always goes over well :D

looks like endura people are the minority...but it gets my vote....its long but its thin and sheeple will never see it unless you want them too

The Delica & Endura are kinda like twins - one kid got fed better though.

I have both knives in many of the different handle & steel examples made because I am in the collector program so I get one of each variety :) but I live near & work in a large metro area & the faclility I work in most is owned & run by the city & the state so it is not in my best interest to carry a large knife around if I want to keep it for awhile unfortunatly.

So the delica gets the nod & the endura stays at home with all his brothers.

The Endura is an excellent working knife for the "blue collar" professional. Good sized handle and blade. Excellent balance. VERY tough construction. Weaker than the Delica? I don't think so. (zenheretic, you would be surprised at some of the things I've done with my SS Endura.)

Too big and scary for some settings? Hmmm... It depends on what you do and where you live. I'm a gunsmith who builds AK rifles for a living, so "sheeple" and other folks with delicate constitutions tend to stay far, far away from me. Living in Texas also helps. Folks around here aren't bothered by someone carrying a medium sized working knife. All of which suits me just fine.

Either will do for daily cutting chores. I would get the one that best fits the way you dress and your needs.

Better yet, make it easy on yourself and get both......

I have them both in the waved configuration, and like them both. The designs are VERY similar but not quite the same--angles, etc are a bit different from one to the other, though overall shape is the same. I often carry the Delica EDC for the reasons mentioned, sheeple factor in my neck of the woods is an issue, if your area is more knife-tolerant and/or you have a big hand go with the Endura. Really the choice is personal preference, both great knives.

I have both and prefer the Endura. Regarding size, the Endura is tiny compared to my Millie:D I can see size as a factor though, sheeple being what they are and all. I just like the bigger blades for more cutting area.

Get both!:)
I'd say E4 Wave all the way for the first one. When you get a bit more cash, buy the D4 Wave as well.
