Love spyderco, spent plenty of money getting them. Ordered a purple delica for the wife, the first 2 had black marks on the tip that didn't come off. The 3rd one was good until I moved the clip on the other side, that made the blade hard as hell to move even with the screws real loose. Got the one today...and now the spine near the tip looks like they tried to make the edge round. Have another one coming....should be here Thursday, wish me luck.

It seems to me that the spydercos made in Japan are lacking in quality, compared to the other ones anyway.

Dont know what the hells going on...got a ulize a ladybug and a sprint run ladybug and a drangonfly all within maybe a month and half...and not one issue.

Spyderco in my experience has had the best quality control out of all the popular folding knife companies. That said all manufacturers have problems that slip past QC at times. I'll add that of all my spyderco knives; the few examples that I could nitpick anything wrong have all come from Seki City Japan.
I noticed you said the tip on the last Delica you received looked like it had been somewhat rounded from the spine. Maybe your example was worse than normal, but all Delica 4s I've seen have been like this. It is one of my criticisms of the current model. I wish it had a pointed tip like the Paramilitary 2. Just an observation...
I wish you luck getting an example thats up to par!

My experience has been that the Moki made Spydercos rival custom quality...and the Seki Clipits are remarkably solid and well-made.
You combine great design with the pride of those makers and it's rare that you don't get a quality knife.

That's just been my observation.

Maybe im not explaining right. If I hold the blade with the cuttering edge facing down on the right side has a nice edge all the way to the tip. On the left side it has a nice edge until 3/8 from the tip, then its rounded.

Oh well...maybe this one will be fine, if not im done with this model for awhile.

If your knives have a fault you should send them back to the dealer and get replacements, you have consumer rights and when you pay that kind of money you would expect to get something that is 100% in working order. Maybe in the future you should send an email to your dealer and ask them to check the items before they ship them and hopefully they will spot any problems.

As for your Delica maybe it just needs time to break in, I don't see how the pocket clip can interfere with blade deployment . Mine was stiff in the beginning too but now 7 months later it flicks open very nicely.

Where did you buy from? It is possible that you could have gotten fakes. I've never heard of fake purple Delicas, but you never know.

The reason that I mention it is because these QC issues do not sound like the Spyderco I know.

I know certain Frn models often get tighter at the pivot when you switch to tip up. I'm not really sure how, but I've experienced it. Never tried my Delica tip up, though.

I disagree. Any maker can have lemons. Perhaps some people have had extremely bad luck, but since 1997, I've owned a bunch of Japanese-made Spydercos, and never had a quality problem. I also use them a lot, and have never had a failure.

I've experienced QC issues with more than one knife from another company that were made in the USA.

From amazon....not fake, just bad Q.C.

It came tip up...witch is fine with me. But the wife wanted it the other way.

I believe you. My 1st Caly 3.5 had a 1" portion of the blade that was never ground or sharpened on either side.

Yup...that was me! And at the end of the post it was good like I said..that was until my wife wanted tip down like her kershaw leek. And when i moved the clip for her the blade was hard even when I backed out the screws alittle. She wants this knife real bad....I really trying to be patient, I even gave it some time before I ordered this last one.

Also tried to take a picture but it aint coming out. Took like 6 pictures but cant tell.

I hope I wasn't one who gave you the impression that I think you're lying. I don't. I was only disagreeing with the poster's statement saying that Japanese-made Spydercos were lacking in quality compared to those manufactured elsewhere. Because that has not been my experience.

However, I do know through experience that getting a defective product really sucks, especially when it occurs more than once.

Not at all...its all good.

I only own one Spyderco made in Japan, the recent S/B Stretch sprint. It came in perfect condition and at some point in the future I plan to order the Dragonfly2. Imho the Japanese still have a very strong work ethic that sadly is slowly going by the way side in America.
