I have been living in New York State, I am in the Army and have not seen much of the South in the past 10 Years but most of the Mountains in East Tennessee where I am from are still as pretty as ever.

Ishiyumisan, I live within thirty miles of the area and for the most part the view from the river is almost like it was then. The surrounding area is growing everyday, thanks to the soon to be completed four lane highway to the Gainesville and Atlanta areas. There has been some problems with some of the "new" land owners around the river trying to stop boat traffic in some areas of the river, but thats happening on all our mountain area streams and rivers. Wheres Burt when you need him:D ?

Thank you for the info,
I am very happy to hear that the forest has
still beauty.

I wish one day to have the time to go there:thumbup:
Thank you.:)

"You ever look out accross a lake and wonder whats burried underneath it?..UNDER...the lake....now that's about as burried as you can get!"

I do love Deliverance!

You must be a very, very ,very young man! Good movie that had alot of people scarred of Backwoods Southern type folks. I am from the South and it had me scarred as well.

My friends and I always have one rule: if you are in the backcountry, and hear a banjo, run and run as fast as you can. This movie was to camping what Jaws was to swimming.

I have never seen the movie, but I rafted down the Chattooga last summer, man was that a great ride (class 4 and 5 rapids!) Our guide was an older man who pointed out every scene of the movie as we passed by. Very beautiful scenery, and from what he said, it pretty much looks the same now as it did then. Evidently, after the movie was released they had a lot of accidents with weekend warriors canoeing down the river in what they called the "Deliverance Syndrome."

Wow,
I'm the only one who mentioned the knife from the film? I thought for sure somebody would have answered my question by now. Oh well, as Lewis Medlock said, "Survival, that's the game."

Jon Voight carrried a nice Western (?) bowie knife in that film. I'll have to go back and double check. Anybody know for sure what knife he had?

That is a hell of question:D
The bowie knife is old pic:(
I'm sorry I'm not able to help you:(
I hope you get the answer:thumbup:
good luck:)

I thought the knife resembled one of those German brand bowies popular back in the 60/70's. Solingen or Lindener blade probably with a very thin leather sheath.
