Was browsing the GB&U thread this morning, and realized I'd never said anything about one of my favorite makers. I have three knives by David, with another in progress and two more pending after that. He is a first-rate knifemaker, producing practical, well-designed, skillfully made and well-finished blades that work in the real world. Far more important than that (to me), is that he's one of the genuine "good guys."
Nothing ever leaves from David's shop until he's made sure to find out
exactly what it is you want, what you'll use it for and how you want it to appear, down to the smallest detail. When I recently bought a "working" tactical knife from him (for SWAT work) he even went so far as to find me a custom sheath maker who could design
exactly the rig I wanted to carry it in. Now that's service! And on top of all that, he's a friendly guy who actually enjoys his customers. There are a lot of very talented makers in the world (and I own knives from a lot of them) who are civil and courteous, but far from "friendly." I will no doubt continue to buy tons of knives from those people as the years pass. But I'd always rather deal with someone who seems to be genuinely glad to hear from me, or sell me a knife. That's David. Keep on grindin', big guy!
