I think that Boye and others use the term when the blade blank is cast, not forged or cut out of stock. I don't know if you'd get much of the purported "dendritic advantage" if you started from bar stock. You might be interested in A&N's dendritic cast D2 blades. Try emailing info@knifeandgun.com.

Thanks for the heads up. I went to K&Gs site but saw nothing there and am waiting for a response from an email. I want to use my own profiles for my blades however I may just pick one up for kicks.
My thinking on the bar stock is that the dendretic structure should remain unaltered in stock removal. As long as there is no 'packing' done. Have you had any experience with the cast steel?
I see your logic. You may need to keep the steel from getting too hot as you work. I don't have any hands-on experience. Try doing a search in the Shop Talk and Shop Talk archives forums for dendritic.
