Dental stainless steel use for knives

Hello - I have some dental instruments that are made of A9 steel - the instrument has a flat area with a finger loop at the end and I was wondering if I could heat that curved part to flatten it out to give me more material to work with - I would be making a small wood carving knife with this steel - any help would be great
