Dental work

My first job out of college was working for a company that, among other things, developed software for dental offices. Our dental insurance was completely paid for. So, when did I finally go? My last week with the company, after not quite two years working there. At the next job, I had dental coverage, but never went until my wisdom teeth started causing me some pain. So, I finally go to a local dentist, and without going into the brutal details, it was the most physically excruciating experience of my life. I wanted so badly to pass out, but it didn't happen. This was for just TWO wisdom teeth. I insisted that the guy refer me to an oral surgeon for the others. At that point, I wanted nothing to do with dentists.

After that, I didn't go to a dentist again for several years, until I was in enough pain that I knew it was unavoidable. I went to a "sedation dentist" who gave me a little white pill to take before my appointment. I took it, passed out (my wife drove me there) and woke up a root canal, crown and several fillings later completely pain-free. I now go regularly, although I haven't needed to be sedated since then.
