Deployment speed?

I love fast deploying knives but, out of all mine:benchmade, microtech, ZT, etc, my fastest deploying knife is my Kershaw Scallion, lol. It must be the combination of light weight and good, stiff spring!

I think that easily closing a folder and putting it back in my pocket is just as important as how quickly it opens. So no, "deployment speed" doesn't matter much to me. And I avoid assisted openers because getting a knife open is only half the job. I find an Axis or framelock much easier to both open and close.

I am not tactical enough to need to "deploy," so deployment speed is of no concern.
I have to agree with this. I do like a well built ,smooth functioning knfe, but I rarely try to open it quickly, and I never need to.

I carry my folders for utility and a fixed blade for self defense.
I carry slipjoints for utility and a handgun for self defense.

I believe that all tools should be multi purpose so my utility knife should also be self defence capable. Even if it isnt a main concern in picking a knife for utility, deployment speed is always a plus in my mind.
Sometimes it's just best to have sole purpose tools as is the case with a handgun when the purpose is self defense.

The speed of deployment is not a concern for me.
But the ease of opening and 100% guarantee of positive lockup is.
This is why I do not use wave.
But I like auto, like kershaw rogue. Perfect EDC - simple click and i am sure it is open and locked.
I also like stainless spyderco backlock - for ease of manipulation - opening, closing and puting back to pocket.

Fixed blades are less practical - it is hard to put them back to sheath quickly.

One of my favorite knives, a GEC #72, takes a minimum of five minutes and two band-aids to open.

So I guess my answer would be, "not very important".

"...from the French 'deployer' (meaning 'unfold')..."

To arrange in a useful way.

Thanks for the dictionary definition, son. Maybe once you have been here longer than a month you'll get an idea of its use/implication here.

Any "implication" of the term is fueled by the fires of people who seem to have a problem with the term... I can't find any threads where some one who uses 'deploy' describes it as multiple users have described it on this thread.

And maybe those of us that have been here 'longer than month' should
read some stickied threads

I like to open mine really slow before I disappear into the shadows of my opponents mind.......

I like to tactically deploy my blade with enough velocity to strategically cut mission sensitive string, rope, cardboard and yes, covertly open letters and packages in real time monitored, scenarios.

It seems as though you're criticizing me for:

1. Using a word correctly.

2. Not having invested more time in an Internet forum.

Also, if you're going to call me 'son', I'm good with that. You owe me 37 years worth of birthday and Christmas presents. I will accept Sebenzas, Spydercos, and ESEE knives. Also, congratulations! You're a grandpa. You owe the girls presents, too.

I value ease (or comfort) of deployment over actual speed. I'm not in any particular hurry to perform most of the tasks I use a knife for, but I don't like having to scrunch up my hand in a strange position to reach an awkwardly placed thumb stud or get the right pressure on an oddly shaped flipper.

Operator me: The faster the better because I need to cut stuff fast.:D:cool:

Most people can't open nor close my spyderco TUFF which is a daily carry of mine. So, the reality is that speed isn't really a concern for me... :D

I like your attitude:)

No concern really. I rarely if ever perform tasks that require anything rapid or requiring one hand. Just a simple pocket knife has always been plenty adequate. And I've never had anyone call them a weapon. Something like these for example...

LOL.

On topic:

"Deployment speed" of a knife is of concern to me. As in, I must be able to control the speed at which it deploys. I carried autos for a long while before I got tired of scaring people upon opening. I'll take an ultra-smooth pivot and a well-made lock, over a lightning-fast "tacticool operator operating in operations" knife any day.
