Deployment... was "Peanut"

MRE boxes.

I'm totally unfamiliar with MRE boxes, what are they made of?

In my day we had C-rations, that came in brown cardboard boxes that contained one main course (meat patties, ham and eggs, spaggetti and meatsause, or other questinable fare) and a smaller can of fruit like pinapple or peaches, a desert like weird chocolate, or penut butter and crackers. The peanut butter was sticky enough to repair the tire on a duece and a half. There was a comfort pack, that was a sealed foil/plastic bag that had a 5 pack of smokes, chewing gum, packet of instant coffee, and a small issue of toilet paper. For this meal we needed a small sharp pen knife to open the sealed cardboard box, and a P-38 to open the cans.

I guess theres been progress in keepng the troops fed.

I'm an S-1 fobbit, so I don't need anything huge really. Our plans keep changing where in Iraq we're going. Originally I was going to take a Buck 303, & Vic Soldier. My biggest "fear" is that as small as it is, EVERYONE will die laughing. My 1SG thinks I'm nuts, & my CSM thinks I'm F****** Nuts.:D
Got tot go & get my 7 shots.

Firstly, don't let others influence you. You know what you need and I believe you've made some good choices with your traditional selections. Second, if you are working as an equipment support or maintenance soldier, I too would add a multi-tool. The pliers for loosening, tightening and wire striping, and the Philips heads and flat heads screwdrivers are the most used tools on my Leatherman Wave. The saw and files have come into use quite a bit as well. They are a good solid American made tool and the blades come razor sharp and will shave arm hair right out of the package.

Most importantly, and as the other fine members here have already said, stay safe and be careful. And stay in touch if at all possible.

All the Best,

Anthony

We had a name for the guys who never left Saigon, yet sported MK2's on the belt. "Chairborne comando's".

I like that, it's better than chair molester.
My CSM is Airborn, Ranger, Pathfinder, & anything else you can think of.
He's set to retire in 2 years & still scores 300 on the APFT (at 60).

So s-1 fobbit,

Are you still sticking with your choices stated previously here?

Progress-yeachhh. Mre boxes are glued shut you can break them open w/ your elbow. the bag is a h-d plastic. everything in it is getting mexicanized so I can't eat it.

What?! Beef enchilada is the best one!

What they need to do is start putting in steak, spuds, corn, & cranberry sauce. I just got out of a 4 day fx. I'm starving since the bozos forgot to feed us today. I think El-C should mail me an alligator, 1st I'll turn him loose on the 1st army, then I'll make soup out of it.

Moving this chat over to Community since this thread is no longer about traditional knives.
