Describe your ideal 'Woods Bummin' knife !

Well pretty much any Rat Cutlery blade would be fine with me, or any one Scott Gossman's blades,
paired up with my GAK or SAK woodsman.

Kephart, WTK, Mini Tusker, PSKsr (wrap), PSKsr, PSK

Ive been thinking about this for quite a while. The knife I want is a scaled down s-curve like Ricks . Make it the size of a sharp finger and add a scandi grind with osage handles. Like this.

I haven't found the ideal knife yet but I do have ideal 'parameters' for the knife. 2.5 to 4 inch blade, 3/32 to 5/32 inch thick, and micarta scales. I'm not as finnicky about steel anymore as long as it comes from a good maker. I'm even thinking of going with a ...stainless woods knife. :D In bad weather I carry a hatchet or a hawk so I tend towards small thin knives. In fact, every knife I buy seems to be thinner and shorter than the one before.

I gave Matt of ML knives the dimensions of my ideal woodsbummin knife and these are knives he makes in that range !

Awesome eh !!!!!!

3" to 4" blade, carbon, 1/8" thick. I like a flat or convex edge.

Either of these work for me.

Besides my SAK these are the only knives I use anymore.

My ideal blade...

3.5-4in full convex 5/32 thick drop point blade, A2 steel, 4.5in handle, guard, in Micarta. With a versatle sheath that allows for several carry options.

Ive got my blade blank(thanks Scott Gossman!), just working on what I wanna do with the handle.

It'll have either a black G10 or natural canvas micarta handle. Blade length is 8" Partial back edge is just an unsharpened swedge to help with drilling or piercing.

Huh? Wuzzat? Looks like a smatchet. :foot: :ducks: :D

For general woodsbumming, I'm having a hard time finding any faults with my Bravo-1.

For me it would be this knife, but with more of a spear point

Kind of like, merging these two together..

I like them big enough to easily make a shelter. At least an 8 inch blade.

Well if my woods bummin trip is to test knives, I would carry all that I could. If it's just a woods hike, No shelter or cooking involved, The Vic Farmer would be all the knife that I would ever need.

If I wanted to carry a fixed blade, My JK Hiker would be ideal also the Game Warden or Active Duty would fit that slot. The biggest would most likely be the Bog Dog. The Farmer and Bog Dog would make a great combo.

If it were just a chopping trip, then the old BK-7 would be my choice.

How bigs your JK Hiker, isn't that as big as the Bog Dog ?
