Desert Dwellers! What Knife Do You Use?

No problems yet but I've heard if them breaking. As far as desert use goes, I suspect it'd be one of the better locks as tolerances are more forgiving when sand gets in it.

Great choice! I love the knife but can't figure out the right carry system. Perhaps I need to take a look at Azwelke.
Do it, man! They have an absolutely STUPID variety of sheaths and carry option. Also accessories. Plus, they're Kydex. And durable as hell.
And in regards to the Omega springs....my only real advice is make sure you can strip your knife down to replace them, and that you know how to make replacements (also advise getting good wire-working pliers, the finer-tipped the better).

I've never personally spent time outdoors in a desert, although I know more people that served in deserts (e.g. Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.), than actually spent a leisurely time in one. Thus, the M9 bayonet, Ka-Bar, or other military-issue fixed blade seems like a good idea.😂

I had a sheath malfunction just before my last trip to the desert so switched out for a comp lock folder at the last minute. My thinking was an open back design might work well if dropped in sand. Didn't actually test the idea, but got a nice photo of an M4 Sage in Death Valley...so it's a desert knife now, if it wasn't before...! In retrospect, glad I left the fixie at home. Too many foreign visitors at DV to be carrying a belt knife. Didn't want to frighten all the tourists wearing designer puffy jackets and clutching the latest iPhones.

Does anyone have experience with John Campbell's knife?

Gloves are mandatory, unless you want your hands getting cut / pinched every chop. The slots in the handle have SHARP 90 degree edges - sanding them down would improve the usability greatly. The stock is over .25 and it’s thick behind the edge, low saber - 35 degrees per side I’d guess. It’s basically break proof, almost. It’s Heavy as well. You could probably pry open the trunk of a burned out car, breach an old shed, split wood and dig well with it. It cuts as well as a no name Home Depot camp hatchet with factory edge. Many better options out there imo. The sheath is an abomination and requires replacement asap.

This knife also went by a different name prior to the “high desert survival school” Branding - I forgot the name , Tactical something.

Spend 30-40 days a year(California Desert)from October through Memorial Day, Depending on weather and health! Most of the time from the border to the Salton Sea, But sometimes Barstow, Jawbone, And Apple Valley too.

When hiking or riding dirt bikes, I use a White River Backpacker Pro! In the off-road car I have a TOPS BOB, Cold Steel Compact SRK, And Becker BK9. Most of the time around Camp use a SK5 full size SRK, TOPS Camp Creek, And Ontario RTAK II. Love the desert!
