Yesterday i was surfing on the net to searchig some knife pics and i saw some pics with knives and desert eagle pistol (.50 AE)
And i was wondering: has anyone of you ever shot with that kind of pistol?

I've shot the 44mag version. Interesting gun, but nothing I'd want to own. It tames the (already moderate) recoil of the 44mag down to 38special levels. However, it's just too big to be useful (it is huge). The guy that owned it had the 357mag version before and loved it. It turned the 357mag into a popgun (recoil-wise).

I don't think I'd even consider one in anything other than 50AE. Otherwise, there are many better guns for the other two calibers. Come to think of it, I'd rather have a custom revolver in 50AE than a DE.

I had a black .44mag Mark XIX (bought the .50AE barrel and clip), ended up selling it (for another gun at the time). But a few years later I bought another one, except I just bought the .50AE.

Fun gun, its not a very useful weapon....heavy in any caliber, ammo for .50 is spendy. I really like it because its a huge round and doesn't have a tremendous amount of recoil.

Its loud, has a huge muzzle flash (very entertaining)...I had at least 9 handguns before I bought the Desert Eagle (not something I bought right away).

Here is a pic, note the barrel is marked .50AE and frame is .50/44mag (they started doing that when production went back to Israel).

I have a brushed stainless Desert Eagle in .50AE, and it IS a BIG pistol. The recoil of this monster isn't all that bad...In-fact, my .44 magnum 5.5 inch barreled Ruger Redhawk is more "punishing" to shoot, although the ".50" has ALOT more "power".:).

Talk about a hand-cannon ! Beautiful gun. . .but way too big to carry. I've always considered them as a open/outside range only weapon.

I've shot the .50AE. WOW Cool caliber. . .if you're into knockin' trees down. LOL

The 44 mag version is a really sweet one to shoot. Very accurate, mild recoil, great cool factor at the range. 44Mag is a lot cheaper then 50AE so, you can actually afford to shoot the 44Mag a lot.

Not something you buy for hip carry walks in the forrest or, self defense outside the house though. If I only had a handgun, needed that kind of power, accuracy and range, a Desert Eagle could easily get the call. That polygonal barrel and lack of barrel to cylinder gap combine to boost the ballistic efficiency and, in my guns, the accuracy. I can literally shoot the nails out of the target frame accuracy-wise. Then you've the power and range of a 44Mag at plus levels thanks to the barrel.

If I needed something to walk around with in a self defense type of scenario (Alaskan bush pilot or similar), I would opt for a Freedom Arms revolver in 454 Casull.

Shot the 44 Mag version that a friend of mine owned. This gun ejected the fired cartridges directly back at your forehead! Other than that, it was a lot of fun to shoot.

:D

I've fired the Desert eagle a couple of times (.44) strangly enough, at a Mall (west edmonton mall in Canada has a shooting range for pistols)

I love that gun. In ways i probably shouldn't. I wish i could justify owning a gun in Canada But going to college and buying a gun just don't mix with the funds.

As for accuracy, i really suck with all guns at the moment (tryed about 6 or 7 other pistols at the range) So i can't really claim too much for the DE, but it does make a difference.

Recoil wize.. DAM it makes a difference. I fired the .44 one handed, rapid fire... Managed a 15" group at 9 meters.

There was a discussion about that tendency on sixgunner.com a while back. Apparently, the gun is very hold sensitive and that can cause the brass to come back at your head like that. There was something else, that, with the hold, contributed to the problem. Since I don't own a DE, I didn't pay too much attention other than to remember that the ejection problem was not a defect but "user error".

I had a .357 mag with the 6 inch barrel, and I loved it. It was the Mark VII and it was a pleasure to shoot. Very nice on bowling pins but the novelty wore off and I sold it and bought a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Long Colt. But I enjoyed my Desert Eagle while I had it.

I own a 44mag Desert Eagle and I love it.A very accurate gun, mild recoil but it is heafty as it should be.Since I cannot carry a pistol legally in Ohio, that is why I carry a knife, but if the sh*t hit the fan.My D/E would be in my hands and would be light as a feather. It is a great gun.

I got to spend some time with a friend's Desert Eagle in .44 Magnum. I was impressed with its accuracy, but the recoil was a good bit heavier than my Taurus Raging Bull in .44. I'll take good porting over a gas-action any time. :) Still, the DE is a very impressive handgun!

I got to play with the 44 and 50 calibur versions. A very heavy and bulky gun. Moderate recoil and accurate, and a great conversation piece, but I'll stick with the 45.

I've shot 'em in all the calibers.., and actually quite a bit. The DE is truly a specialty piece as far as pragmatics go. It is a BIG HANDGUN!!

Indoor ranges where I shoot usually have a couple you can rent.., but it's not a gun for everyone in my opinion simply because of the size of the grips. I have big hands.., and I love shooting both of my DE's.., but it's a hefty investment unless you really like the gun..., and it fits your style of shooting...
