Desert Skills Ultralight Hike

Hey Guatier, where around arizona do you live? I seen some mines that looked almost exactly like that in Wikenburg and in Tucson.

I'm about equidistant from Bullhead City and Kingman. Lots of abandoned mines out in this area, from gold and silver down to quartz and iron. They're fun to explore and poke around in, if not entirely safe or smart, like I said though about 25 feet was as far into those as I got, maybe 50 before I decided to back out.
Now, if I had someone with me that could alert others to an emergency and we took turns exploring it(alas my hiking buddy is sick) I'd have been a little more inclined to go further. Bad thing about this area though, is that for every mine you see, there are 3 that you don't. A little girl died about a year or two ago(could be 3 now, my memory isn't the greatest) while ATV'ing with her father and sister, she was pulling up the rear and ran over a mineshaft. When her father lost track of her he circled back to look for her, to no avail. I think it even took the search team a week or two to find out where she fell in. Didn't mean to derail the post or be morbid, just a cautionary to those that like to roam the desert like me. A good walking stick to test the next step is an essential in my book.
