Hey guys, just wondering if there was a reason the rc5 and rc6 doesn't come in desert tan? I would love an rc6 combo edge in tan, black is nice and I have one on the way but it's not my personal favorite.

More product to track, more SKU #s, smaller numbers of the standard 6 because more of those blades would have to go to other color variations, etc. Maybe some day?

I've been wondering the same thing! I will be picking up an ESEE-5 at some point in the near future, and I LOVE the other ones in the Tan scheme!!

Being that the 5 is a designed as a "survival" style pilots knife, with the war in the middle east you'd think the desert tan option would be a sure bet!

Surprisingly, Desert Tan is not that popular of a color with MIL, LE or regular folks like myself.

That's odd! I would have never thought that would be the case! Shows what I know! But for me a tan 5 would be awesome! I'm not usually drawn to anything in desert tan but for what ever reason the tan esee's really appeal to me!

I'm military (rather I used to be) and I like desert tan the most. For some reason it seems black blades are the most popular but black blades are usually one of my last choices. I certainly can see how black on black blades would be appealing to so many people but it's just not my thing I guess.

All the people I know in the military or law enforcement like OD and black. Not one of them likes the desert colors. Got me wondering why, now. Will have to ask.

Yea that's really odd. A friend of mine served in the Marines and he hates the desert tan

here in the desert black stuff gets HOT and stands out like a turd in a punchbowl.

OD or sage green... or the stuff they're calling "foliage" green blend in ok, and gray, tan, flat dark earth or coyote blend in nicely.

as far as tracking extra part numbers goes,,, they've got these new things called "computers" that supposedly help with tasks like that!

I think maybe the issue people have with the tan is it's too light? I dunno. Seems like it'd do well in the sand but not so much in the woods or other locations.

I for one do not like black blades particularly as mentioned because they get extremely hot, and if you really take a look around very little in nature is absolute true black in it's natural state (let's ignore burnt wood and stuff like that).

I like the OD, things like muddy (from bussekin) tend to be my favorite and then the tan after that.

I can certainly understand the "making what sells" though, and if desert tan is as unpopular as it seems then maybe it's not worth producing. I'd kill for a serrated desert tan RC-6 though :) :)

If I lived/worked in a desert environment, the last thing I'd want is a knife that blends in so well with the surroundings that I'd never find it if I were to drop it in a pile of sand. Don't get me wrong, I love the desert colors from time to time, but it just seems like it could be a problem not being able to find a dropped knife easily.

Kyle.

which is why i asked previously about an orange Izula.

but a 5 or 6 is big enough that most places i might drop one, i don't think it would be much of a problem.... unless it falls down a cliff or gets dropped along the trail and i had to *go* and hunt for it.

that's why the toolkit on my enduro is in a case made from two yellow 1qt oil bottles cut off at the shoulder with one serving as the bottom and the other serving as the cap. press them together and they fit onto each other. white, black, green, blue or purple didn't seem like good choices, gold was an absolute non starter.... and i can't ever recall seeing oil in orange bottles.

I have a 3 and a 4 in desert tan, if I had to buy them over, I would buy black. When you really beat them the light color gets to where it just looks dirty. I don't like when somethings dirty and I can't get it clean. Really sets off the OCD:thumbdn:

Have to agree, Tan/coyote brown is a very popular colour now.
I would invest in a Coyote brown ESEE 5 or 6.
Keeping track of inventory......+1 on those new fangled computers!

Be happy to take those off your hands. Don't care if they are dirty. :)

With regards to dropping a knife and not finding it...I doubt the desert tan has chameleonic powers. It might take you a second or two more, but by that reasoning if I dropped an OD green blade in the woods it would suddenly disappear.

So maybe take black to the desert and tan in the woods? :)

I know a lot of people like orange blades / knives but I really really do not. Again I tend towards less popular colors.

I didn't mean that it would just disappear, though reading back my wording may have seemed so, but if you've ever dropped anything in sand, you know it tends to bury a lil bit. Something black would still be a bit more visible where a desert tan knife would be harder to find. Even an OD green blade would be easier to find. With the tan blade and canvas micarta, I wouldn't wanna be sifting through a lil bit of sand and end up grabbing the blade instead of the handle. I'm sure most of the time this isn't a problem, and it all comes down to personal choice and what you are comfortable with. Just pointing out a reason why Military personnel might prefer something other than a completely tan-colored blade.

most of the desert around me is rocky hardpack and not like "fluffy beach sand". silt beds can be nasty, but they're the exception, not the rule. even an orange version might be hard to find in silt.

Here is another vote for the Desert Tan in an RC-6. I live in Tucson and the Tan is a VERY popular color. Plus, it'll match the new SBR I'm putting together.
