Desert tan

I own both ,but favor the DT a little bit more. It just looks cool for one thing , and I do find them easier to find that the black ones. . The canvas Tan handles seem to have a littler bit more grip too , although I've had no probs. with my black ones ( two fours , a 6 ,and a Hest.). Mostly a cosmetics thing I guess.

I didn't mean that it would just disappear, though reading back my wording may have seemed so, but if you've ever dropped anything in sand, you know it tends to bury a lil bit. Something black would still be a bit more visible where a desert tan knife would be harder to find. Even an OD green blade would be easier to find. With the tan blade and canvas micarta, I wouldn't wanna be sifting through a lil bit of sand and end up grabbing the blade instead of the handle. I'm sure most of the time this isn't a problem, and it all comes down to personal choice and what you are comfortable with. Just pointing out a reason why Military personnel might prefer something other than a completely tan-colored blade.

Kyle.

I can see what you mean but I don't think you're going to drop it and it's going to bury itself in the sand to the point where you can't see where the blade and handle are.

I definitely see the potential for it being harder to find than a black blade, but I would think that any situation in which you lose the knife because of the desert tan color would probably be a situation in which the black one is gonna be gone too.

I mean, even on the desert tan the blade has dark black writing, and the screws for the handles are shiny bright metal.

When I was a scout (infantry scout, not cav scout...walk, not ride lol) I carried a sog seal pup. My main complaint (other than the fact that the kydex sheath detached itself from my LBV belt one night and the knife disappeared) was that the thing was entirely solid black and grey. It really really stuck out against the rest of my gear, so I would normally just naturally camo it with dirt. That was back when true black was still a part of BDUs, prior to ACU introduction.

Isn't tucson more building colored? Jk yeah I'm right by there, I like od better but hate the orange. I'm still gonna need a tan 4 though.

Military and LEO, I have a few black ESEE but I normally p/u the OD or Tan. I think the tan holds up better (look wise) in use than the blk. It just seems to not show chips and rash like blk. But OD is still my gig. I wish a tiger stripe in OD and BLK would come out!

I got my RC-4 in desert tan just because I didn't have another RC in that color. I like it because its different.

As a former Marine(long time ago),I prefer OD or black.But,will admit I have a tan RC3 that I really dig !

Here's a complicated suggestion:

There are threads here that demonstrate removing the powder coat. Then find a local shop with powder coating equipment. A few minutes in a 400 degree oven, and voila: Desert Tan ESEE 6.

Send me your knife and I will Duracoat it any color you want. I got a sandblaster cabinet, large air compressor and all the Duracoat stuff I need. I have been spraying all kinds of stuff. I did a Izula in Magpul Flat Dark earth and it turned out pretty good.

I am thinking about offering this as a service.......

I've got the izula, 3, and 4 all in desert tan, I wish they all came in that color, although, I am digging the OD green that the 5 is in!!!!!!

i'd think that media blasting would chew up the edge and require more sharpening to bring it back.

if you chemicaly strip the factory finish there wouldn't be any damage to the edge, you'd just need to remove the coating from the edge which would be much simpler.

if the price is reasonable i'm sure some people would be interested.

i think an orange Izula would be cool, but i don't want to pay $20 extra to make it orange. two small flat rate priority mail boxes at $4.80 each... only leaves about $10 for refinishing. use parcel post and it might be half the postage costs, so that would leave about $15 for refinishing.

i dunno if someone would be interested in doing the refinishing at that price point.

I use 120 grit aluminum oxide and have had 0 issues with blade edge retention.

I do need to figure out my cost vs profit and decide how to offer this as a service at a affordable rate.

I've had a tan Izula for over a year. Black cord wrapped it and carry in in a black tecloc...so it's basically black (my favorite).
If I had to buy it again...which I probably WON'T haha!...I'd buy the Izula in black.
