Put your thinking caps on and design the perfect JK knife for you. I'd love to see what everyone else pictures as their perfect knife.
Design it with John making it in mind. Handle material, blade shapes and grinds etc.
If this goes the way I think it will, we will see some knives that we must get John to build.

I sent John my drawing and cutout of what I think will be the perfect knife for me. I am on the list for March for it. maybe John will be so kind as to post a picture of my drawing. I don't have the means of doing it.

Cool. I hope John puts up a pic. I'm really interested in seeing it.
My tastes have changed so much in the few years that I have been hanging around here, I'm always open to new and exciting things.

I can`t download the drawing, I will try to get a picture of the cutout, probably tomorrow. Going to the hospital again today.

Thanks John. Please give Hanna a hug from us.

My knife ( for work ) is based on a western 628 bird knife, a few changes but same knife just larger. I got one of these knives a few years ago that I keep in my shop just for use around there and its shape and size are fantastic. I probablly would carry it for work but the sheath is messed up bad and wouldnt hold up to what I do. Its a nice straight knife and fits my hand good so I have a lot of control. Grind would be up to John and the bottom part of handle could change but I like the shape the way it keeps my hand is place. I would like to have orange or yellow micarta and if I had 2 made the second would have snakewood. anyway here is my idea...

I have often imagined a knife like that with John's heat treat. I think it would be a sure winner.

Not my "perfect knife" but some I would like to get made some day:
Mucks (with and without hump):

5.5" Bushcraft, 5.5" camp knife, 6" tactical:

6" (may get longer) Chopper (which I would like to name Stomper Chomper if it gets made), and another 5.5" Camp knife:

nice designs guys.

i saved a "just in case" copy of the cutout that i sent to John for my march order (camp-style knife). i took a pic this morning and went to upload it, and it wasn't on my phone. i think i put it in "sleep" mode (or whatever you call it) before the pic saved.

i think i already have my "perfect" all-around knife in the VT Hunter. haven't found anything i don't like about it yet. the custom camp will be my "big" knife. i would also like to do a fillet knife, at some point. i think that would about cover my bases.

cool thread mack. i'll try to really take pics tomorrow.

Nice design, Curt!~

I was talking to John about a big beefy knife - 1/4" thick, 14" oal, 8.5" blade, and hollow, flared rivets, which I think make a knife look very cool.

I also would want a nice swedge, with a longish clip point, with the swedge sharpened for better piercing.

Satin finish, black paper or linen micarta, polished smooth, with red liners.

Since the flared rivets require a tool, I would provide John the tool (have not talked to him about this yet....) so he could use it for future requests.

He almost got my design with the knife he is raffling off for Evan - I would just make a few adjustments to the design.

I guess I envision a less tall bowie style knife with more of a busse feel, in indestructible JK 01 steel.

Thanks Mack - now I will have to follow through and draw something up. ;^)

Ok...i stopped at my place at lunch and got a couple pics. i found a bunch of cutouts i still have that show my thought process i went through with the new design i sent John.

Let's read from the top and progress down. Starting at the top is the design i had for the VT Hunter. I wanted a big knife, so #1 cutout (just below VT Hunter) shows the same basic shape of the hunter, but extended.

#2. i decided i wanted to see what a spearpoint would look like.

#3. the cardboard one shows essentially the same shape as #2, but i wanted to put more steel toward the tip for better heft when chopping. i also added some thickness around the first finger groove.

#4. I wanted to see what it would look like in more of a sheepsfoot blade shape.

#5. this is the final design i sent to John. i decided i didn't want to worry too much about chopping. and, #4 reminded me of a kitchen knife (santoku style). and, thinking about the kitchen led me to extend the blade well past the handle to give me room for my fingers. the cutout says 5/32", but i ordered in 1/8".

and, here is a closeup pic of the new design with its companion, the VT Hunter.

Hmmmm. It looks like you guys have been thinking. Some good looking designs there.
Thanks.

Well Mack, with all these patterns to choose from I don't feel the need to design any more, with the exception of a big chopper maybe.

The top one in 10" & no beak on the butt would be great IMO.
