I wanted to start this gallery to post the design competition entries I've received so far. Competition looks good (Please only post comments, not pictures here) - I'll take care of posting the entries to keep things simple.

Also, I wanted to add a comment: Although these two entries are masterpieces, the ability to draw is not a factor in the judging! If it were, I'd be a hypocrit, as I am not a very good "drawrwuh."

I do have another "entry" - a wooden model that was sent to me from a "non-internet" customer. Since he doesn't know about the competition, and only wanted me to have his knife made, I won't enter it into the competition. IF (and IF is the word here) the kamis are willing to make all of the entries as "custom" khukuris, then I'll bring back everybody's entry finished. However, only the winner will get his prototype for free, and only that design will go into limited production.

Craig,

Three weeks and counting. Hope you are getting pleanty of entries. On the IF part,
approximently how much do you see as final $'s? Got to start saving just in case.

RA: If you win, of course, it's free for you. Otherwise, as I always say - the final price will be in keeping with our general committment to value pricing. Which is to say, I don't know.

I'd say under a hundred bucks, like most of our models.

Craig,

I hope that everything is easy to understand. Sometimes, my mind works a lot faster then my fingers. Anyway, I'm glad that the post office came through.

Rick

Craig,

Part of me says...."Whats with these people."
and part of me says..."Send no more." Are you going to post the third entry's picture?

Another entry by Sumo:

CQKukri.jpg

Name: CQK or CQ Kukri (might as well sound 'tactical')

Materials:
-Standard kukri steel for the blade, was thinking integral(?) or
pinned/soldered on mild steel
for the guard,
-Parkerized finish, should make for a nice hard-use utility piece.
-Slab-style tang (w/lightening holes to make it more blade-heavy)

Blade: 10 1/2" from the tip of the blade to where the back side of the
blade meets the guard.

Handle: 1/2" thick green or black canvas micarta, with deep palm swell
and gunstock type checkering and/or
deep filed grooves cut into it for added grip and held on by either pins
or corby-style bolts and epoxy.
Substitute for more 'normal' material if it isnt feasable.

Design history: basically its an improved version of one I made about
3-4 years ago in the more 'traditional'
style that I wasnt quite happy with.

Sumo,

Can you explane how you did it. Would like to see how the "Swift Warrior" would look like done that way.

Rick

Sumo,

You always did have a way with designs. To hear you talk about your designs on "R", you wouldn't think they would so beautifully transfer to print. Good Luck, hope you win. That blade definately has my vote. =)

Sumo,

Got the 3-D rendering, Looks Fantastic, Already put it on my computer as a screensaver. Thanks so much.

Rick

Craig,

How is the design competition coming? Any chance of posting all of the entries on a new post so we can compare them? And how about the bowie designs? Wanted to keep this post on top

Here's the latest from Otto:

I'm a very bad artist. I've enclosed the khukuri of my dreams, roughly.
The handle is cut and pasted from a Ken Onion khukuri from the HI FAQ. The
blade is a 19.5 inch sirupati. I tried to add serrations from the handle to
the curve, but now that I think about it I'm doubting the benefit. Anyway,
please take a look and if I won't get sued by Ken Onion maybe I can clean it
up and mail it to you. If not, maybe you can at least show the Kamis the
handle and give them more ideas.

Thanks,

Otto Rieger
