Hey guys, I’m 16 years old and I’ve been making knives for a couple years now mostly thanks to the wealth of knowledge I have found on BF, so I just want to say a big thanks to everyone who has contributed.

I have made a few knives now and am going to be trying a bigger fighter/Bowie style knife and I was wondering what you all thought of the design, please ignore any measurements or writing on there, what can I improve and change? How can I make it a more ergonomic and fast looking knife?

I have a nice piece of stabilized Tasmanian Blackwood, and I have 3/8”x1” 4140 for guard material.

Personally I don’t a think a harpoon blade says fast, sleek, fighter.
Your sketch looks tall and again that doesn’t say fast to me.
This is what I picture when I think of a fast fighter.

Brady, I like the looks of your drawing, and darn close to being a really good looking Bowie. BUT - as other folks have said, it doesn't really look like a "light 'n fast" fighter. It does look like a strong heavy duty Bowie.

IMHO Try the same lines with a 20% reduction in height (Looks chunky) and that should get you closer
What ive done in the past is take a picture and manipulate it in photoshop or Paint or take it to your local Office max and ask them to do it for you They can print it out

Thanks, I think I’ll give that a go because it does look quite big so I’m gunna try that out

Looks pretty darn good. When I look at it, I keep seeing the long straight line along the top of the handle all the way to the ramp up to the harpoon.
A good designer to look at for this style is Sam Lurquin. He does a lot of these, but with a variety of interesting curves.

Looks close to me now. The guard gets a bit thin and flat. I would curl it back on the inside.
At this point if you can execute anything like this you will have a fantastic piece.

Great looking knife! If you want an aggressive look, try tilting the guard forward a little. Also, I would make the blade a little longer, in comparison to the handle, but that is just me

Yah I was thinking about tilting the guard a bit and see where it will look best, I see what you mean with the length, it wouldn’t hurt if I made it a bit longer. thanks for the tips
