This could be right about the handle. I made one longer than necessary and it still bugs me. You should make a mock up and make sure it feels right. That is a gorgeous piece of wood by the way.I'm a kitchen knife guy, but to my eye, the handle looks a tad too long for the blade. And I think the belly is a tiny bit too abrupt towards the tip.
Yah I think both of you are right about that because I was noticing it looked a little more out there and bigger than it needs to be but I won’t know til it’s done I guess. I like the idea of a mock up handle, I might even use some modeling clay or something and get it rightThis could be right about the handle. I made one longer than necessary and it still bugs me. Thank you, this forum is full of so many helpful people it’s amazing. I’m so grateful people are willing to share and help me turn a crappy drawing into a pretty decent oneThat wood is beautiful. Very cool to see the revisions as they happened here. Very well done. That is going to be a nice knife.
Yah that sounds like a really good idea just so I could get a feel for what’s going on. Thanks for the tip.It looks good. I think you would learn a lot about it by making a mock-up first with basic soft steel and basic wood handle.
I would go with your last sketch. I don't think a clip will improve it much and would make a weak tip.
I commend you for working through your sketches and evolving this project. The final drawing is very much improved. In the rush to "make a knife", many newer makers just run out and cut the steel to their first idea ... which usually ends with a mediocre or poor knife. By evolving your design, you will have a very nice knife shape by the time you cut the steel.
Thanks man! Yah I don’t know where it’s really gunna go yet I kinda just threw that in thereLast sketch looks beautiful! The pin might look nice 1/2" further back, but that's my personal preference.
