After cutting out some blanks, I ended up with a small oddly shaped end cut of steel. I didn't want to waste it, so I decided to try something new.

I've never been very gifted at design, but it turned out better then I hoped. This is my first attempt at making a neck knife, and also a wharncliffe blade. I've never owned a wharncliffe either, so I am pretty ignorant to them.

Since this is a neck knife, I put a deep finger choil to make sure the hand was very secure. I also put a slight palm swell for comfort. Since I've never made one like this, I had no idea how it was going to feel. It is surprisingly ergonomic and very secure in the hand.

Instead of putting a straight angle coming from the tip, I rounded it ever so slightly for added strength.

What do you guys think? Any changes you would make? Once again, I'm completely ignorant since I've never used a wharncliffe.

I plan on drill some holes in the tang to lighten it up, and also plan on wrapping the handle with paracord.

Also, I know its a little bit rough, and the grind isn't even, but I am mainly looking for design input. I have yet to start sanding or polishing.

Thanks

Thank you, I am actually waiting on a file in the mail, that's small enough to do a notch on this one. I think it definitely needs one. I'll have to wait on the heat treat til the mail runs on Tuesday.

I've taken a look at a lot more wharncliffe neckers, and I made a couple slight changes, and decided to grind out another one.

Instead of putting a continuous slope from handle to point, I used two obtuse angles. I rounded them slightly for a clean transition. I also reshaped the handle a little bit. I curved it in slightly, used a deeper finger choil, and shaped the butt differently.

I think it looks much better. Should I leave the angles pronounced when going from the handle to the edge, or leave them slightly rounded like I have them?

Thanks for the input.

Hey Guys, sorry to keep posting, I'm just trying to figure out a decent design.

Judging by the lack of comments, I figured something was wrong. I liked the overall shape, but something just wasn't right. And then it hit me, its much to thick for how short it was. I drew out a few more sketches and I think I got it a little better now.

I would really appreciate some feedback, even to tell me to its a POS and scrap it.
Thanks

Not my taste, but if you like it that's all that should matter. Make the styles and designs YOU want, not what some body else tells you to do. The changes I would suggest would be for my liking not everyone else. So I say its good man.

I think each design you have made has been better than the previous. Only thing I would add is rounding off the back of the tip as you had in the first two. I definitely like the "trimmed" version for practicality reasons

Like everybody else said, a LOT of this is subjective, but I like the last one. PERSONALLY, I would round the points off the spine, choil area, and the handle. Make it a little smoother without sacrificing grip. I also agree with everybody else, they're clearly progressing with each evolution. Nice job.

make it, use it, learn from it.
Many times what looks nice feels uncomfortable in use. So you will learn more about how to make a good using knife by using it than by guessing what looks "right"

Thank you for all the input. I knew I liked the overall shape, and especially the feel of it in the hand, but I knew something wasn't quite right, which was why I was asking for a little advice.

I tweaked it a little bit more, and I think this is the best one yet.

I'm gonna heat treat it tomorrow, and put it through the paces to see how it goes. I'll update afterwards.

Input appreciated

It looks like you may have a problem with cutting your index finger on the edge when gripping the knife. You may have to go back to your 1st idea with a small ricasso and a plunge line for safety.
