Design: "Track n' Trail" ~ Wilderness Series

Brian, thanks for the comments. Yeah, the name will change to the 'Outback' design and, I have done some research with Toms logo and I believe it includes his signature. There are differences in the paw logo but yes, I too beleive that they may be a bit close. I might incorporate a 'G' or a 'D' in the large pad.

I think 'Running Dog Knives' of years gone by also used a wolf paw which was identical to Toms.

The finger grooves were matched to my hands from a template so should work our well.

I can not wait to get these and have some thickleather on standby to make myself some hand stitiched sheaths with firesteel loop. Should be good.

I wouldn't worry too much about TNT or the paw print. There is also a TNT delivery sevice and Jack Wolfskin uses a paw for its outdoor gear. It may be prudent though to avoid conflict with overzelous fans of some other maker that has a similar theme.

Perhaps we can have a 'Pick a name' brain storm thread for the design if you are not 100% about Outback.

Is this going to be 100% Aussie made? If so, the largest pad in the paw print could be an outline of Australia.

Very nice designs -- I think they would be great users in the in the field. As far as the handle goes, just go with your gut. You're not going to be able to please everyone, but if you are doing a design that you believe in, it'll show.

Gundy, I think the big mutha' looks like a great all-round blade, although I have to say that I too would like to see a saw on it or would definately order that option. That's just my thing as far as my collecting goes though. Great designs.

It looks cool. It will be interesting to see what the final product is, what custom options are available, and how much they will cost.

Guy:

How is this project going? Also, what about V-grind vs chisel...and the benefits there in for your designs? What about blade coatings and/or finishes...any thoughts? I definately like this design. I was looking at other JEB and saw a chisel blade/extension at the end of the handle (i.e. Floro)...I like that too but not sure if I would want that in your design...just a thought to ponder. In the end, your design is good and probably the ideal...but just thought I would float that idea.

PS: Did you design the JEB Gecko too?

Nice designs. I had Bob Hankins make me a knife last year that is remarkably similar to the smaller one (but without finger grooves) in D2 . It's a GREAT knife, but I suspect that your choice of O1 would be superior for a general purpose tool.
I agree with what has been said about finger grooves - they are too user specific. Other than that, they look great to me.
