Design your own SAK game

In the thread on "Changes you wish would occur with productions/customs alike that would rock" , I suggested design your own SAKs.

Danbo jumped on the idea with:
"Design your own SAK, eh? Ok, I'll play. I want a large SAK, similar in size and style to a Victorinox Rucksack. Here's what I want changed:

Main spearpoint blade and smaller warncliffe-like blade out of BG42 or VG10. The saw can be out of the same material as the standard Victorinox saw.

Liners being thicker, and made of titanium.

Handle scales to be dark maroon linen micarta instead of the cheapo plastic.

All tools and blades being heavier duty, and all have locks.

This sounds like a winner to me. In fact, I'll just bet that our good buddy A.G. Russell could and would make up a batch of these!"

I had original proposed it as a generic idea, but I wanna play too.

I want a standard sized SAK with:
2 blades (BG-42 or CPM S30V will be just fine).
Can/bottle opener/screwdriver
phillips screwdriver
corkscrew (w/small screwdriver insert)
awl
Scale inserts:
magnetized metal toothpick
sharp tweezers (I'm tired of ding it myself)
Instead of a pen, I want a very small phillips screwdriver (again, I'm tired of doing this myself).
LED

And I will second Danbo on the titanium liners and the dark maroon linen micarta scales (great idea!!!)

I sure wish that this was more than a game.........

Soldier model with:

stainless steel scales
154Cm blades
pocket clip
small clip point blade instead of the awl

The Pioneer series with Ti handles and S-30-V or BG-42 blades/tools.

Bring back the Scientist model.

Change the whole line to better steel, as mentioned earlier, scales of micarta, g10, CF. Pinned or screwed on of course. Liners of ti. Tools made like proper tools.(sharp precise screwdrivers for example)

I would buy some and pay more for the upgrade.

Wishful thinking though.

2 PE Blades, 1 big, 1 small
1 Serrated Blade, big
Wood saw
Metal saw/file
Sissors
Flat head screwdriver
Philips head screwdriver
Torx T6 and T8 drivers
Reamer w/ sewing eye
Pocket clip - NO Keychain!!
White LED, Photon III type with SOS and whatnot
Bottle and Can openers
Tweezer / Toothpick
Grippy scales, like maybe Micarta

If they made this one I'd buy 5 of them.

Put file finish on SIDE of a blade. ANY blade. Cheap modification and no reason not to. I could also gladly exchange the can opener for scissors on my One Hand Trekker.

:)

That's a pretty good idea bro! I sure would like that on my smaller SAK blades, but not the bigger for some reason.

I'm not sure if this is possible. If I remember correctly, the hardness of the file is vastly different from the knife blades.

What might work would be a long rectangular file with a chisel tip. Be careful while filing enthusiastically! :)

I'm only talking of the FINGERNAIL file. I carry two SAK's and one just for the file.

I also see by the above sentence why it would NOT be a good idea for THEM.

  :D

Talk about Back to the Future...

Some older Swiss Army Knives have a Phillips screwdriver that was square in section, not round, and had a file on one flat.

It can be done, on a screwdriver "blade", at least. But you're right, it wouldn't work too well on a knife blade.

My perfect SAK would probably be the "Compact" model, but instead of a corkscrew put in a drum key and make the blade out of 154cm or VG-10.

I'm betting it will never happen. Though they did make that one with inline skate tools. heh

Edit! G10 scales :]

My perfect SAK would come as a kit and the knife could be disassembled completely and expanded by ordering different length screws and tools/blades. You could assemble virtually any combination you'd want. A variety of different blade shapes and steels would be available, including Damascus. Liners would be ti, not too thick, with somewhat thicker ti scales with a choice of inlays in Micarta, colored G-10, exotic woods, and MOP, etc. One of the scales could also form an intergal framelock for the largest blade.

And it would be made by CRK. :D

Can you imagine the price?

I want a Survival SAK, based on the Farmer. Modifications as follows:

- replace can-opener/screwdriver with short sheepsfoot blade

- replace bottle-opener/screwdriver with combination bottle-opener/can-opener as on Leatherman or Wenger tools

That's about it. The only thing wrong with the Trailmaster as a survival knife is that the awl Ts out of the bottom, which I find awkward.

You know, it probably wouldn't be that hard for Victorinox to produce a configurable model. The pressed scales and riveted pins would need to be replaced with some kind of threaded rods that the scales would screw onto. The rods would need to come in different lengths to allow for different sets of modules to be slid onto them. Then you could buy the modules you wanted, pick your choice of scales, and assemble it yourself.

So why isn't anyone doing this? I imagine it would be possible to make this work with the existing Victorinox modules if someone came up with the right system of rods and scales for connecting them together. Can one of our enterprising machinists make the necessary parts? I bet you could sell enough sets to make it worth the effort, just on the forums.

Maybe if they made a single bladed knife.

  :D

Partner with Husqvarna and put a motor on the saw.

Rayskin wrapped handles?

:footinmou :barf:
