That he might . Khukri Khutmore .... Sounds good . Now I just hope it looks as good . Here is what I have so far :

1: About 20-22 inches in total length.
Hopefully around 2lbs. total weight.

2: D-gaurd handle

3: Up-swept blade with false egde on the
spine of the forward part, this way it
is better for back cuts.

I'll see if I can't get you a picture of it either e-mailed or snailmailed by monday. It's not finished so it will just be the roughed out version but at least it will give you an idea of what it will look like.

Ok, now my turn....

Harry,
Sounds great, I like it a lot, but I'm having a hard time visualizing the cho.

Berk, the cho is done in such a fashion as to be able to open up a bottle of the official HI Forum beer.

I got up this morning and did a little sanding on the blade desighn . This is the first time I've ever tried something like this, and boy if it fun . Even the wife thought it was "cool" . She collects the little sundays comics barlow style knives , but she usually isn't into my "big knives" .
Should I try to put alot of detail into it or let the kami's decide about things like cho's and fullers. I'm thinking let them decide , they might need to put large fullers in to keep weight below 2lbs. The grip itself looks like the bowie coffin style , but that to is up to the bladesmith.

Thanks for AM laugh, boys!

Edd, get it as close to the way you want it to look as you can. The less you leave to the kamis to decide the better off we all will be. They will do what then need to do without giving them a lot of leeway.

Khukuri FAQ

If Tom Holt is right, then the 25" Kobra is what I'll want in a custom designed khukri. If not, I'll probably start making my own model...

(...and then bill Tom Holt for getting it made.

Of course, I'll probably just end up with his 40 cents adn bowl of rice, but it's worth a shot...)

I ran into some problems with the D-gaurd.
You can only curve and thin wood so much before you get splitting . I glued things back together and started painting . The only instructions that should go with this is "make it look like this and weigh less than 2 1/2 lbs." The best part of this khuk
will be the upswept blade and the false edge
on the downswept part of blade .

A Two Handed Khukri!

This would come in handy with the heavier Sher/AK knives, the 18"+ models.
I bought one of the 18" AK blems and was put off by the weight(2.75 lbs) for one handed use. The difference between it and my WWII was just too much to get used to. When I placed two hands on it, it was a much different story.
The index finger of my right hand rested on the unsharpened part of the blade, which was to close for my tastes so I sent it back for a refund. If the knife had enough of a handle to kept both of my hands on, I may have kept it.
Since the big AK's are more like axes, a two handed model would be ideal.
What do the rest of you have to say about a two handed model?

The thickness of the D-gaurd that I have carved is about a half inch. Ill try to get it down a little more. I'll put the fullers in also . Last will be the sword of Shiva and the cho. Looks like THURSDAY is the day of shipping , maybe FRIDAY . You should have it by mid next week #1 Uncle .

OK, pix and then off to Nepal. Maybe I can ship the model and the three scabbards together and save a few $$$$$. Express mail to Nepal is pretty expensive and that is the only way to fly.

I thinned the D-gaurd dowm to about 1/3-1/4
of an inch and put in the fullers . I don't want to thin the blade any more for fear of cracks. The blade should be just sleightly thicker than kobra's . I'll finish painting and send it to you WEN-THU . Hope you and the kamis like it enough to make me one.
