designing a makers mark

Sorry, but I think Koster would look just fine as a mark. You're lucky, in that you have a short last name like me. I decided that I did not want people looking at my knives down the road and wondering what that weird mark stood for, or who made the knife. My stencils have my last name of UNGER in capital letters with a rectangular frame around it. I like it quite a bit.

Only problem with that is that there is a Koster on the east coast that is a knifemaker....Stephen Koster, I believe...........and that's how he marks his knives.....IIRC......

I thought about that too....looks kinda like D'Holder from a distance....
(sorry for being a pain...)

I'm really interested in everybody's ideas.

Also, as Dave L. said, there's something special about using a stamp....an etch is like a graphic treatment, imho....has it's place, of course and I'm not against it....

Jeeez! You're a picky bastid...
:D ;) :footinmou

Do Koster in an tribal script. Like it's chizeled.

It's your name and will look different enough not to be confused with the other guy....

or do koster with an emblem. some thing simple ...like a feather (blgoode) or a flower (slobodian?).

How about the thing that you used to use as a avatar the circle and square thing? Sorry can't remember if you had a name for it or not. I liked that but I can uderstand wanting you name or your initials in the design.

Daniel,

TRust me...an etcher can go plenty deep. I'll show you my etchings at Tackrock. HEll, I dont even blacken them most of the time. Thats how deep they are ;) :D

If you like HI imports then why not etch an Everest skyline and have KOSTER underneath in a plain clear font?

Took me 3 mins to find this using the Images section on Google, undoubtedly there are many more to choose from.

My problem is mostly size. My logo looks like the penguin when small. On an a4 or Cd cover it is fine. I etch with a battery charger and salt water because I am cheap. A proper stencil out fit would probably get a bit more detail.

Rodgers knives were big british knives Joshep and William rodgers both put the full names on the riccasso of folding knives so I think size should not be a problem. Levines book may give you some other clues aswell.

el ler ry no holly wood for me, no tough guy at all my middle name is Kimberley isn't that a girls name. Rub it in LARSEN

Reg ELLERY can you email me a jpg of your logo the size you want it? I just got some photo resist stencil stuff and am playing with it a little, if you want i will see how yours tuns out. the stuff i got doesnt do fine lines very well but solid bold seems to work pretty good. my email is terry_dodson@yahoo.com

edit: they say this stencil can be used to etch glass and mirrors also, so it should be ferric chloride resistanta also right?

Thank you for having a look. I may need to modify it slightly. The bottom of the tail and rear flippers loose shape when etching. I think part of the problem is the stensils can not be cut down to 6mm on the old adheisive tape method in the fine detail area.

I may have to make the flippers a fraction larger and higher.

I don't know if I ever had anyone pick it for a turtle until after I told them it was.

email on the way. Thanks again Reg
