Here is an knife that was made in the same spirit as a previous knife I called the Trebuchet.

The knife is integral Damasteel and it is held on to the stand with a magnet. The stand is made with African Blackwood, Damasteel and bronze.
I don't use Blackwood enough, and this is one of the finer pieces of that I have had the pleasure of working with.

Blade length is 150mm (6"), and about 8mm thick with a deep hollow ground.

Very nice, very special.

I like your style!

Kind regards,

Jos

I loved the trebuchet and this is no different. Beautiful lines, the magnet is so cool with multiple position options. I have got to pony up for one of these. I am scared to ask though!

VERY nice scalpel AND stand Magnus! ANOTHER very cool creation and display of craftsmanship!

Thank you! Asking is always free and usually never wasted time! ;)

Thank you! I am very glad the Trebuchet found its way to a good new home!! :)

Thanks also to all the rest of your kind comments, very appreciated and a great inspiration indeed!

I love the idea and this is so well executed. My only question is -- would not a thinner blade be better for desk work which would usually be associated with letter opening etc? Maybe I have missed what the knife's purpose is. I also think a hidden tang in the wood would be suitable method of creating a piece like this. You never cease to astound us though with your fine artistry. Everyone here I'm sure enjoys your work and creativity.

Thank you so much for your comment!

I agree, a thinner blade would certainly be a good option to open letters with, and a hidden tang with a wood handle is then one way to go. I have touched on this idea earlier but I have yet to make something along these lines.
But a for proper letter opener I would likely make the blade not only thinner, but longer as well. And not razor sharp.

I call this knife a "Desk Scalpel" since I found this a somewhat suitable name.
But its purpose is not limited to my intentions or thoughs that may have crossed my mind. It can of course be used for anything a potential owner wishes to do.
The blade is deeply hollow ground on a three inch grinder-wheel so it cuts rather well for its initial thickness.

Thank you again Murray!

Magnus, it's art, and I see you won't let yourself be boxed in by someone saying "gee, shouldn't it be a letter opener", or this or that. It's perfect the way it is, a creation of your mind.
