Desk Scalpel

Magnus, it's art, and I see you won't let yourself be boxed in by someone saying "gee, shouldn't it be a letter opener", or this or that. It's perfect the way it is, a creation of your mind - and one, I might add, that apparently almost everyone loves just the way it is.

Thank you Bob! :)

Let's see it again, Pg 2:

Magnus proclaimed it correctly: It's a desk Scalpel. That said, I hate to offer contrary opinions, but I was on the same page as Murray before he posted.

The intention of this piece as both an art object and a desk tool leans closer to the art object to me, for the exact reasons Magnus mentioned; he pointed out a more efficient shape if he was designing such.

I rarely have a use for a scalpel shape, although I use my letter opener daily. Here's mine:

It's enough of a distinction for me, that I would pass. It simply would not be a tool I would find as useful. I'm spoiled!

This said, here is the original 'Trebuchet' inspiration:

It's thinner and, to me, better suited to opening letters. (Let's face it, a desk knife is going to be relegated to: opening letters, showing off, and cleaning fingernails. LOL! ;))

The Trebuchet has the cool factor times ten.

Scalpel: It is superb. That said, I would like this with a blade twice as long, half the thickness, and pointier. On my desk.

Thanks Magnus! Always a pleasure to open your threads.

Thank you very much for your thorough and detailed comment Coop! :)

The Trebuchet was way more labourintesive than the Desk Scalpel.
This is something I took into consideration and I intentionally made this new piece slightly less intricate in an effort to keep the price down for a potential customer when compared to the Trebuchet.

New versions are in my head at all times and ideas keep evolving as I type this! :D

Thanks again Coop!
