Let's see it again, Pg 2:
Magnus proclaimed it correctly: It's a desk
Scalpel. That said, I hate to offer contrary opinions, but I was on the same page as Murray before he posted.
The intention of this piece as both an art object and a desk tool leans closer to the art object
to me, for the exact reasons
Magnus mentioned; he pointed out a more efficient shape if he was designing such.
I rarely have a use for a scalpel shape, although I use my letter opener daily. Here's mine:
It's enough of a distinction for me, that I would pass. It simply would not be a tool I would find as useful. I'm spoiled!
This said, here is the original 'Trebuchet' inspiration:
It's thinner and, to me, better suited to opening letters. (Let's face it, a desk knife is going to be relegated to: opening letters, showing off, and cleaning fingernails. LOL!

)
The Trebuchet has the cool factor times ten.
Scalpel: It
is superb. That said, I would like this with a blade twice as long, half the thickness, and pointier. On my desk.
Thanks Magnus! Always a pleasure to open your threads.
