It looks like you gave it a very nice edge
Out of curiosity, why 5/16" thick with only a 7" blade? It could have a lot more chopping power with more length and still be able to pry laterally with such thickness... How much does it weigh?
Why so thick and CPM-M4? Is it inspired by a Bladesports competition knife? Why the enormous ricasso?
Thank you for this contribution to the forums, please keep it up
Thanks for the kind words

the short answer to your questions would be "cuz i felt like it" lol, but...
Not sure why the ricasso is how it is other than i felt comfortable with how it looks and it leaves more weight. the choils in the future ones probably wont be nearly as deep, this was my prototype and i made some mistakes and had to spindle sand an accidental grinder mark out of it so it got a little deep. i was going to make have a non choil version.
No its not inspired by a competition knife, ive jjust recently heard of bladesports.
Because my first real fixed blade was a cold steel recon scout and it has a 7 inch 5/16ths thick stock. its simply the thickness i think of for "big knife". 1/4 on say my ka bar heavy bowie isnt quite overwhelming or smile evoking, its adequate, just not quite my personal fun factor.
I would like to make bigger knives at some point, but out of the 12 inch piece of stock i ordered this one is the only blade length.
Why CPM-M4? because i cant figure out for the life of me other than price why its not the only steel used for anything that doesnt need to resist rust asr a number one priority and why more people dont use it. A friend of mine bought a contego and even after having S90V and ZDP knives, that was the only one he was not just satisfied with, but happy with the edge holding and impressed by it. It is my personal opinion of the ideal compromise, its tough enough to do what i did and yes theres tougher steels, but it wouldnt be nescessary other than just wanting to survive a beating in a vice, and thats not daily use.
Its very strong, i dont like cheap steels that just bend.
Also as i said i want more knives made of this, the Gayle bradley (who i spoke to and inspired me to use it) spyderco (which my friend also owns and loves) and the benchmade contego other than maybe a gold class griptillian, a bark river small fixed blade, are the only knives you can just go and order right now that ive seen made with it thats not custom. so, like survive using 3v and being a semi custom, semi mass produced knife, at one point i want to use waterjet for my blanks and starting to make bigger numbers at a lower price so more people can have M4 knives. i still want to do a custom knife but eventually i would like to have a semi mass production route simply because no one else makes knives out of it. what if there was only 3 knives ever made out of S30V ? i would hope someone would figure out "hey this makes a good pocket knife there should be more of these".
So, in short, My recon scout inspired me to make a realy big and tough and thick fixed blade. then i found M4 is a good steel that exceeds our needs and makes us happy, someone said i should make knives, and this is what happened.
