Hey all,
For anyone who likes carrying their larger knives like their BK9 or brute but doesn't like it catching on brush or pulling on the belt, I recently learned to use a sewing machine and built myself a 3 position back rig for my BK9 under 10 bucks. I used a few metres of nylon webbing, some velcro and an assortment of buckles.
To start I sewed three short pices of webbing (3x the width of the sheath in length) to one long strip of webbing (long enough to go around my body with extra, it can be cut to fit later). The short pieces are spaced so one will go aroun the top of the sheath between the opening and the top of the pouch, one goes below the pouch, and one goes at the very bottom of the sheath. (the bottom of the sheath will point up on the back Dundee style). Velcro pieces are used to hold the sheath to the back strap (Don't use the sticky velcro its a pain to sew). You can reinforce the velcro closueres if you want with an adjustible strap.
On either end of the back strap I attached a plastic snap buckle. To be worn the sheath can be worn like a banolier with the knife on the back and the strap across the chest if wearing a bulky coat. It can be worn across the back with the snaps attached to belt loops like crocodile dundee in the movie. Or, it can be worn horizontally above the hips like a belt. Also the rig comes right off in seconds to be worn on the leg. On mind I put 2 leather swiss army sheaths for fire starting stuff that can be accessed from the front and a wetstone in a pouch on the back. To the knife itself i lashed a leatherman multitool and sheath. A good hank of paracord can also be lashed to the rig. To accomodate a brute or other large knife in a kydex sheath the same rig can be made but making loops for paracord to lash the sheath to the rig. Anyway, I hope this helps if anyone has been looking for new ways to carry their blades. I'd post pics but i'm not that computer savy. But if anyone wants some feel free to drop me a line at lindey0@hotmail.com and I'll send some when I get a chance. Take care
