ok lets say youre on a hike and you pull out youre assisted kershaw and bam the torsion bar brakes now the rest of the hike youre worried if the knife is going to cut youre leg up. Now lets say the same thing happens but youre knife has a detent drilled in the blade now youre thinking the rest of hike I like this knife better dassisted and are a happy camper or you just order a new tension bar when you get home and you can still use youre knife till the new torsion bar comes what Iam trying to say is kershaw youre 2013 line up looks awsome so please drill the detent hole because I want to buy alot of kershaws this year.

I'm hoping that the 0770 comes with a detent hole. I wish my KO and my Piston had detent holes!

Same here. Assisted Opening isn't a deal-breaker for me, and I'm glad I got the KO regardless, but I'm looking to drill a detent hole in the blade so'z I can de-assist it regardless and still have some handle retention.

Sure, I take a fixed blade, too. The folders are usually tip down precisely because of the scenario described - the detent may not work, AO or not.

Here's the point - if it's EDC, outdoor, or even survival. why risk an open blade at all? EDC, you are getting into whatever else you carry in your pocket with some frequency, and at work or doing chores, do you need to take time out for a bandaid - or worse? Outdoor, you are going to be even further from medical care, and survival, it could get really serious.

The few I carry tip up get put in the back pocket to put the knife against the seam, or an upper pocket of a harness or strap. Then it's no problem.

I took the torsion bar out of the blur i just got and my only complaint is the detent, it would replace the skyline in my pocket if it had a detent hole

Blurs already have detent holes in the blades, or they did when mine was made.

Mine very well may lol, the detent on it without the torsion bar is just terrible, still love it though, i just assumed there was no hole and thats why it is so bad

is there a list of assisted knives with detent drilled I know the blur and the blackout have one.
ps on the blackout I was never interested in this knife looked cheap but I got one for christmas and this knife is a cutting machine and is really starting to grow on me.

I wish the 03xx series had detent holes... I'm still on the fence on trying to do it myself. I'm afraid I'll bugger it up.

ok I tried to drill a detent hole in my 0350 first off this steel is very hard on drill bits messed up 3 of them second I was off a little and it just didnt work I will not buy any more kershaws without detents. This sucks because kershaw is my favorite brand.
ps I thought 0350s had detents guess the composite ones dont. Now I need to find someone with a 0200 to trade with.

Email me bud.

Agreed. It was an oversight IMO that the Knockout was left without a detent hole. I'd prefer to de assist it as well. However, it's an amazing knife regardless. Maybe there was a logical reason behind not making one from an engineering or performance perspective that I would be unaware of (seeing as I don't design knives for a living). I would prefer the option to be on all assisted knives though. The detent hole on my Blur has made that an absolute daily carry due to how wonderful it is without the torsion bar.

I've wondered for a while why they would make any knife with a detent ball thingy but no corresponding detent hole in the blade. I mean, I understand why they might not bother giving the knife a working detent at all, what with it not being strictly necessary with the speed safe system.

IIRC, The leek was made like that, too. What was the point in putting a detent ball dealy on the locking frame but no detent hole in the blade?

For the blade travel. The ball is what touches the blade as it opens. If it weren't there, then the lock bar would drag on the blade at it opened. Can you imagine what that would feel like, and do to the knife?

Stick, I think your analysis would be summed up easier with one word: Friction.

I DID IT! Whew, disassembling the 0350 again, I decided to once again try to de assist it. SUCCESS! I loved this knife, I'm not sure there is a new word to cover how I feel now. ::Insert inappropriate language:: YEAH!!!
