Determining blade angle

Hello all,

I recently picked up a nice Western fixed blade. I would call it a fin & fowl knife.
It is pretty dull but not completely without a blade. How does one determine what angle to sharpen at to maintain the original blade angle?
Or does anyone know what angle this knife might have?

I would add a photo but I do not see that option.

You can sharpen the knife to any angle you like. Most range from 22-30 degrees, but again just sharpen to what works best for you and what you'll be doing with it.

You can do a little experimenting-
Put some black marker ink on the edge such as with a Sharpie, pick an angle to try, make some light strokes with a fine stone, look at the edge with a magnifier to see what part of the ink is being removed. Then adjust the angle up or down until it seems to be removing the ink at the edge.
