Holy crap! That is cool! Reminds me a little of the Gamorrean Guards' axes in Return of the Jedi, although yours is much cooler! Great work!

HOLY!! I couldn't really tell how big it was until the pictures of you holding it!

Thanks guys. It was fun to make. You ought to hold it in person. It's pretty impressive. Too bad it's not my own original design. Frank Frazetta really knew what he was doing.

you know, I saw the title and thought "great, another wall hanger design", but I gotta say having seen it: AWESOME :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

great design and execution, it's over the top but not silly in any way, it's still usable, the design elements are subtle but all work towards the overall image.

You guys with all your new fangled video game references. Check it out:

Awesome.

Looks awesome, but I'd be afraid of the wood snapping during contact with whatever I'm chopping. I would have used some kind of tubular metal. Maybe aluminum. Yes, it would have been heavier, but I like the peace of mind especially if I actually were to commission a piece I'd be using. Having said all of that, how sturdy is the wood?

The tang goes down about 8 inches, and it's bolted with 1/4 inch lag bolts, tightly screwed through the oak and steel, with a heaping amount of gorilla glue.

I would imagine, the way it's designed, it probably wouldn't work good for chopping trees down, but I would definitely go into battle with it, after practice and a little strength building with it. It is 9 pounds, and it's all out there on the end.

The handle is made out of a solid piece of oak, that I steamed and bent, similar to my bows. I thought that would be better than cutting the wood out at that shape. So honestly it is one stout puppy.

The head is clamped around the bolts and tang and also gorilla glued very tight.

A fine specimen. A tribute to your craftsmanship. I shot your longbows long ago so I know how your products perform.

Thank You.

I release a youtube video of the axe last night. Thought I'd go ahead and added it to the thread.

Nice work. You should send a picture of your axe to Frank Frazetta and see if you get a response.

Wow: Love your website - going to the bladeshow? I'd like to meet you.

Nice axe.
I just have one thing, the oak... oak is hard and durable, but not flexible.
Normaly axhandles are made out of ash or hickory because they are more flexible/elastic.
I beleave an equal diameter ash handle will be much more durable.

I wouldn't go to battle with an oak handled axe
