We're always looking for better, tougher, harder, sharper. I popped some scales off because I overheated the tang after putting the scales on. It was my fault for carelessness, but it got me looking at epoxy temperature limits. I've always used 2-Ton and have been satisfied, but there may be a better Devcon product. It is Devon HP250. Part #14315. Mcmaster-Carr stock # 66215A33. Price $8.86 per 50ML twin cartridge dispenser. Specs are as follows.

Devcon 2-Ton
Adhesive Tensile Shear 2,250 psi
T-peel 2-3 pli
Impact Resistance 6.5 ft.-lb. /in.(2)
Tensile Elongation 1%
Gap-Fill Good
Cured Hardness 83 Shore D
Operating tempersture, dry -40°F to +200°F
Color Clear
Mixed Viscosity 8000 cps

Devcon HP250
Adhesive Tensile Shear 3,200 psi
T-peel 35-40 pli
Impact Resistance 12 ft.lb. /in(2)
Tensile Elongation 25%
Gap-Fill Excellent
Cured hardness 78 Shore D
Operating tempersture, dry -67°F to +250°F
Color Straw
Mixed Viscosity 105,000 cps

The drawbacks as I see them are color and thickness. I thought I would give it a try. Anybody ever used any of this stuff?

Meant to comment on this earlier, but I forgot.

personally I don't think those two drawbacks would be a problem. I think the color would just make you that muchmore careful about keeping your slab to tang fit(or whatever it is your'e gluing) as close to perfect as humanly possible. Also, on some materials it may even look better. Like the chunk of bocote I have here, which is still big enough for 10-15 knives depending on handle size, a straw type color would actually blend in better than a clear epoxy if I didn't fit handles as well as I might want and leave a noticable gap.

The thickness might be a problem. But I'd guess it could be thinned with something, whether acetone or some other type of thinner. If you try some and decide you like it except for that one problem, you might contact them and ask them what can be used as a thinner.

That all being said, on the advice of many people in here I'm looking at changing over to Acraglass once I use up the stock of epoxy I have here. I think there's also some generic altenrative too, which is cheaper than getting acraglass from Brownells(which hopeefully there is, as I'm in the middle of a boycott of brownell's).

Anyways, my .02

WHile back now(least, think it was a while back, I heard about it late), they tried to sue MidwayUSA for "Copying their catalog" or something along those lines. It was some ridiculous thing that basically was just an attack on a competitor(and not even really a competitor, as midway sells, or at least at one time sold, many brownells products), and in my opinion gun industry has enough problems without infighting like that. So I send all business like that to Midway(they've always been easier to deal with anwyays).
